Steel Panther 'Feel The Steel' Album Review
A review of the recently released album from Steel Panther (Formerly Metal Skool)
This album is not for the easily offended, and it is obvious why from the very beginning. A pose on the cover that would make even Poison cringe, overly 80's metal style clothing, wild hair etc.
Firstly a warning, if you dont like bad language, sexual content, or most other offensive things then you will clearly hate this album. Even the warning on the case says "...may offend... and people with ears."
This album is one of the best i have heard in years, and that is saying something from an Iron Maiden Fan. It is tempting to write this album off as a Tenacious D type parody album. But upon listening it is more like the entire of the 80's and 90's rock/metal/ballad scene summed up on one album and condensed into 12 songs.
The first song Features Corey Taylor on vocals, and is titled Death to all but Metal. This is a heavy rock parody that states that most new artists suck, and that true music is Motley Crue and Def Leopard. Not the best song on the album but definately makes sure you know what you're in for.
Asian Hooker, is a song about trying to find a 'Ho' in Japan, and has lyrics that are very catchy. The chorus is remeniscent of Dio himself.
Community Property, one of the best songs on this album, sends the message that its ok to cheat if your heart is still with your partner. It is a typical ballad which is sexist, lewd and amazing.
Eyes of a Panther is not a song that i tend to listen to on this album. But credit where it is due, has a very good riff.
Fat Girl (Thar She Blows) is probably my Favourite songs on this album, as it is very much a Whitesnake parody, and you can tell this from the opening bar, because the song is strikingly similar to 'Is this Love'. While the chorus is typical 80's hair rock. It is incredibly offensive to Overweight Women, including some very mean lyrics about being bigger than a bus, and so much more.
Eating Aint Cheatin' is a parody of bands such as Poison, and Motley Crue et al. And makes the claim that oral sex is not cheating. Iy is quite graphic in its depictions of this topic.
Party all Day (F**K all Night). is a great song which starts out as a parody of Bon Jovi, namely Living on a Prayer. It is a very stereotypical view of rock stars that just lay around having sex and drinking. For me spoiled by the fact that half of the second verse is performed by Justin Hawkins of the ex-Darkness. Only one thing i can comment about this is 'Just No'. But the rest of the song is well above average.
Turn out the lights is a song about sex with ugly people, and how its ok if the lights are off. Its remeniscent of the slightly heavier side of rock in the 90's. very Motley Crue like.
Stripper Girl is a Power Ballad about a guy that meets a stripper, and then makes her pay his rent. Then cheats with her 'friends from work'. Amusing, and very catchy.
The shocker is a song about a sexual act which can be performed with the devil horns sign, disgusting but your average catchy metal number.
Girl from Oklahoma is an obvious parody of the Uncle Kracker song 'Follow Me' but about oral sex. Also one of the best songs on the album.
Hell's on Fire is a very surprisingly good song. more serious than the rest of the songs, just takes the P*** out of the average song about hell and the devil.
There is not one bad song on this album, and although the lyrics will not be to everyones taste, musically this is a very sound album. I would give it a 5-Star rating for all-round entertainment. Especially since there is rarely an album that delivers 12 songs, and none of them suck.
