The dangers of having high blood pressure

What makes high blood pressure more terrifying is that it does not display symptoms or warning signs.

Blood pressure is the amount of blood your heart pumps and the resistance it meets in the arteries. If this pressure rises and remains high over time, it can damage the body in many ways.

If someone has a high blood pressure, the heart and arteries have a heavier load. The heart is forced to pump harder and the arteries come under greater pressure to carry blood. Other organs that receive blood like the kidney and brain are affected.

Although the condition is often associated with adults, children and infants even have high blood pressure.

It is possible to have this disease for many years without even knowing it. If it goes untreated, this can lead to the damage the heart, blood vessels, kidneys and other parts of your body.

Blood pressure changes from minute to minute and is often affected by activity, diet, emotional state, posture and medications.

In rare cases people with severe high blood pressure often suffer from headache, dizziness, burred vision and nausea.

Recent studies indicate that 15-30% of adults in developed countries often suffer from persistent high pressure. The key complications of high blood pressure include heart disease, heart attack, kidney failure and stroke

The disease is also directly responsible for many deaths and disability resulting from heart attack, stroke and kidney failure.

Bad eating habits can increase the risk of developing high blood pressure. Whether or not medication is prescribed, it is important to make dietary improvements.

A proper diet can make managing high blood pressure a much easier task. There are a lot of simple changes you can make to your diet to help lower your blood pressure. These include the following

Alcohol

People with high blood pressure should  avoid drinking  alcohol, as this can worsen the pressure.

Salt

Eating too much salt can make high blood pressure much worse or cause you o retain more water, which increases the volume of blood circulating through your body. Opt for sea salt, rather than using the table salt. It also places extra strain on the arterioles. Both these effects lead to higher blood pressure.

Fats

Saturated fats such as transfats are bad for the blood vessels. In most cases the circulatory system is already under a lot of stress in the setting of high blood pressure.

Fresh Produce

Fruit and vegetables help balance the amount of sodium in your cells. Some of these foods include banana, oranges, tomatoes, artichokes, Lima, beans, spinach, dried prunes and raisins.

Drink water

Drink a lot of water. You can try drinking mineral water in place of some of the regular water.

Exercise Regularly

Exercise makes your heart stronger and can pump more blood with less effort. Regular exercise can improve blood pressure.
