Make Easy Magazine Storage Boxes for Shelves

Don't let your favorite magazines get stuck out of sight in a closet or bent and wrinkled in a coffee table stack. An attractive box will let you easily display them without clogging up your bookshelves and tables with sagging soft covers.

Making cereal box magazine holders is a fun and creative way to store your magazine collection. It makes a great kids craft and an easy decorative solution to piles of soft covers and hard-to-shelve issues.

The first step is measuring the cereal box to make sure your magazines will fit; then cut the tops flaps off the box. Use a straight edge to draw a line from one corner to the midpoint of the opposite edge on the front of the box. Then draw an identical line parallel to it on the back.

Cut the sides along both of those lines using scissors or a paper knife -- try to keep the lines straight and smooth as you go. Cut the side connecting the excess cardboard in a straight line and remove the two flaps. The box should now have a "V" angle cut across the front and back, with an half-cut side your magazines can easily slide in and out. Make sure your box isn't cut too short, otherwise the magazines may not have adequate support on either side.

Cover the box in your favorite roll of old wallpaper or wrapping paper. Contact paper is also a great choice, since it comes readily equipped with adhesive on the back. If you're using regular rolls of paper, however, simply tape most of the paper's edges inside and out of sight, so they won't show after your magazines are tucked inside.

Place your magazines inside and display on a shelf or desk -- no more unsightly stacks or mussed covers!
