Scientists made a new discovery on the oceans floor, the furry white lobster.

The world holds such mystery and we never seem to know what’s around the next corner. New animal species are also discovered all the time. We are always searching and seeking those that till date have not been put on the map. It is always quite thrilling when these new things are found and so was the day the new species of lobster came about.

The furry lobster was discovered in the South Pacific near Easter Island in March 2005. This new discovery was made over 7000 feet below the ocean surface near a hydrothermal vent on the ocean floor. The pictures of this creature look unreal to me, but what an amazing new discovery!

This creature is about 6 inches long and is blind or has very poor eye sight. It has no pigment in it’s eyes at all. Their hairy pinchers contain bacteria being thought to detoxify the minerals in the water in which it lives. Scientists believe it may live on bacteria but are not certain of this.

Scientists made up a new family for this crustacean Kiwaida which in Polynesian mythology meaning goddess of crustaceans. This guy is not a true lobster but better related to the hermit crab.

After this furry lobsters discovery Japan made a stuffed toy replica which was called the cuddly-toy sentimentality. Who knows what’s around the next corner of discoveries. Maybe they will  find the Loch Ness monster up close and personal.
