Step 1) If you graduated from college, call your college career center and ask them for a list of alumni that live in your city. After receiving the list, send a professional cover letter and resume to the alumnus. Make a follow-up call to that alumnus within one week of sending them the introductory letter.

Step 2) If you were in a faternity/sorority, social organization, varsity sport, get a list of all alumni from that organization that live in your city. After receiving the list, send a professional cover letter and resume to the alumnus. Make a follow-up call to the alumnus within one week of sending them the introductory letter.

Step 3) Scower the job boards including craigslist.com, yahoojobs.com, monsterjobs.com, careerbuilder.com, etc. Post your resume on these websites to increase your exposure to employers.

Step 4) Make a list of all companies within your city where you would like to work, including the small businesses. Send the HR manager at these companies a cover letter and resume. Make a follow-up phone call to the HR manager within one week to set up a meeting.
