Began one of the largest Latin American revolutions, the Cuban. it has become an icon for many young people's world, in principle, those of third world countries who are against U.S. imperialism. Even in the power struggle is because, as the saying goes, what does not kill makes stronger.

A life appealing
Few lives are so attractive in the political world. And Fidel Castro is of massive interest, both for those who idolizes those who want to see him overthrown. It is undoubtedly one of the stronger men who have faced one of the most powerful countries in the world, United States. Has remained in power until today, more than 45 years. Men are also highlighted in the world for her leftist activism, his oratorical ability and his leadership. With these qualities he faces one of the world powers in a fight that will end who knows when.

Its start in politics
From 1945 to join an active student in political struggles at the University of Havana. In 1947 he was part of the expedition organized to fight against tyranny Trujillo in the Dominican Republic, and joined the Colombian people in the popular uprising of April 1948 in Bogotá.

He was a founder of the Partido del Pueblo Cubano (Orthodox). Beginning in 1948, denounced the corruption, neglect and official gangsterism prevailing in the country. After the coup of 1952, organized and trained a group of young people who attacked in 1953, the barracks in Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo, with the idea of expelling power of the dictator Fulgencio Batista. This action was unsuccessful, so he was arrested and jailed. Two years later he was granted amnesty and was exiled to Mexico where he created, together with the Argentine Ernesto Che Guevara, the July 26 Movement, which continued through the actions of subversion and proselytizing.

Castroite ideas were extended and gradually gaining adherents to the student, which enabled, with support from the Socialist People's Party, making a march in Havana to remove Batista from power. With this event, held in December 1958, began the Cuban revolution, which succeeded in ending the dictatorship of Batista on 1 January 1959, leaving in this way Castro in power. Then assumed the duties of commander in chief of the armed forces, and February 13, 1959 he was appointed Prime Minister of the Revolutionary Government.

Both in cases of military aggression from outside and in the activities of gangs within the country's counter-invasion in particular organized by the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States conducted in the Bay of Pigs in April 1961 - Fidel Castro led and participated in every action to defend the country and the Revolution.

He was also elected deputy to the National People's Assembly in its subsequent sessions since its inception in 1976 and has since been ratified by the Assembly at the offices of President of the Council of State and Chairman of the Council of Ministers .

His most intimate enemy
United States managed to become the great enemy of Cuba at the beginning of the 60s and was the Soviet Union which gave the main international support for Fidel Castro and started shipments of material aid, economic and military, even more uncomfortable to USA

Cuban politics began to be governed by the principles of socialism: the industries were nationalized, collectivized property and will be implemented a state model based on a single party, the United Party of Socialist Revolution, called the Cuban Communist Party from 1965 . The expropriation of property in the hands of Americans led the U.S. government to break trade agreements with the Cuban regime. In response, Castro made the Havana Declaration, which reaffirms the principles of the nationalist and socialist Cuban revolution, which got even more intense tension between the two countries.

Many Cubans were forced into exile, mainly in Miami, where an organized political resistance. And with the support of the United States, organized an expedition which landed at the Bay of Pigs, but he found the magnificent Cuban resistance. This fact, considered by Castro as a frontal attack led Cuba to align with the Soviet Union, which increased the financial and the military.

In this way the world was divided into two blocks, each with nuclear potential, so the situation of Cuba presented a serious threat to global stability. The installation of Soviet missiles on Cuban soil was a rising tension between Soviets and Americans, they respond with a block on the island by sea.

In 1962 Cuba was expelled from the Organization of American States and the Castro denounced U.S. imperialism and proclaimed the Democratic Socialist Republic of Cuba. That same year the call went missile crisis, when President Kennedy ordered the blockade of Cuba by the installation of Soviet missiles. The crisis ended when Nikita Khrushchev promised to withdraw in return for U.S. not to invade the island.

Another major problem in Cuba when the USSR fell, as this was their main supplier of food and equipment. The economic problems of the island increased in subsequent years, and Castro tried to perform a certain openness of the economy to encourage a small private speech. At present, the higher revenues of the island comes from tourism, which by the Helms-Burton Act, claiming the economic blockade continues to punish any country that trades with the Castro regime.
