Story of the capture, Captivity and slaughter of Dolphins

( I have no control over any of the advertising that appears on these pages)

There is a new movie coming out at the end of this month called "The Cove." It will be in New York and L.A. on July 31st and other theaters at the same time or soon. There is not going to be a lot for me to write on this blog. you can view the movie trailer and once you see that, the story will pretty much have been told.  I will say that the plight of the dolphin is just one of so many cruelties that we are all guilty of when it comes not only to our fellow human beings but to the other forms of life that attempt to share this land, rivers, lakes and oceans with us. I have written about the trouble the Yellowstone Bison is having. The only true full blooded American Bison left. And it is in danger of becoming extinct. I have also written about  "Regulus The Brave Whale," which deals with entanglement of one whale but the plight of all. Those stories are all availble on the internet.

I have just read today that the National Wild Life Association is asking that we write to President Obama because the Salmon is in danger of being over fished and legislation is coming up to try and prevent this.

We as Americans are very guilty of over consumption. We take more than we need, eat more that we should, use more gas than we need and our list of things that we  shouldn't do could fill several pages alone.

I point some of these things out because I am about to come down very hard on the Japanese, and I don't want it to sound like I think our own country is a bunch of little goody two shoes calling other countries to task.  This country has many things in it's own back yard that need to be cleaned up. But there are some cruelties that out weigh others and while we can't fight on all fronts at once, we can surely fight the ones that are most pressing first and move on to the next and the next and so on. On this site I wrote a piece called Starfish and Footprints, which deals with our inability to save everything that needs saving. One story I relate in it is of a young boy walking down the beach and throwing Starfish back into the ocean, An old man says to him " why are you bothering you can't possibly save them all? the young boy replies " you are right but I sure made a difference to this one."

Now to the point of this piece: Have you ever gone to an aquarium or open sea enclosure, watched the happy dolphins dancing and playing with the trainers and visitors? They always look so happy. It is a fact as you will soon see that the Dolphin has no facial muscles and is not capable of smiling. Behind that happy look the Dolphin is crying, The tears of a clown.

What you will see in the trailer from the movie.  It shows how the Japanese are the biggest enemies to the Dolphin just as they refuse to  stop whaling, they refuse to stop not just capturing the dolphin but if an ugly dolphin is captured and I cannot imagine an ugly dolphin, it is more likely than not killed. There is information here on what you can do and should take five minutes of your time. And just like the boy with his starfish it sure might make a difference to even one dolphin.

Winner of audience awards across the world, including Sundance, SilverDocs and Hot Docs, The Cove follows a team of activists and filmmakers as they infiltrate a heavily-guarded cove in Taiji, Japan. In this remote village they witness and document activities deliberately being hidden from the public: More than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are being slaughtered each year and their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan, often times labeled as whale meat.

When you have seen the trailer the is also a widget to take action and add the widget to your own site or e mail a friend.

The majority of the world is not aware this is happening. The Taiji cove is blocked off from the public. Cameras are not allowed inside and the media does not cover the story. It's critical that we get the word out in Japan.  It's critical that we get the word out—everywhere.  We believe that once the Japanese people know, they will demand change
