A summary of how much RuneScape gold and woodcutting experience a F2P RuneScape player can make an hour training woodcutting.

There’s talk in RuneScape circles about training the woodcutting skill and making RuneScape gold woodcutting. Woodcutting makes some RuneScape gold, and experience in the woodcutting skill is gained at a moderate rate. Using my RuneScape character, I analyzed both training speed and profitability of four types of logs available in F2P. I am level 69 woodcutting, so I included low-end estimates to reflect lower levels. RuneScape gold amounts are based upon current Grand Exchange rates of 29 RuneScape gold per log, 30 RuneScape gold per oak, 18 RuneScape gold per willow, and 447 RuneScape gold per yew.

Normal Logs are obtained from trees, dead trees, and Evergreens. The trees are very common in the game, but each tree produces a single log. Trees take nearly a minute to respawn, making efficient gathering difficult due to constantly moving. Normal logs are used to train Firemaking. RuneScape members use logs to power level fletching or to make planks for training construction. Normal logs are in moderate demand in RuneScape and sell on the grand exchange most days. A level 41 woodcutting RuneScape player using rune axe can make 15k to 18k RuneScape gold per hour, while power leveling about 14k experience woodcutting.

Oak logs are obtained from oak trees at level 15 woodcutting. Fairly common in RuneScape, single oaks by the Draynor Village bank and east Falador bank, and a few oak trees fairly close to the east Varrock bank are the best to power level on. Oak trees produce 1-28+ oak logs before being cut down. The oak tree respawns in about ten seconds; players need not to move to obtain more logs. RuneScape players use oak logs to power level firemaking. RuneScape members use them for power leveling fletching and making oak planks. Oak planks are in high demand for power leveling construction. A RuneScape player with level 60 woodcutting can make 20k to 30k in RuneScape gold per hour, while advancing 30k-32k woodcutting.

Willow logs are obtained from willow trees at level 30. Although not most common, willow grows by the draynor village bank. Like oak, willow trees produce multiple logs. Willow is cut in high amounts by players power leveling their woodcutting skill, but there is no demand for willow due to maple logs providing a better firemaking or fletching option for higher leveled players. Willow is not used in construction. A RuneScape player over level 41 in woodcutting can advance 25k to 40k in woodcutting experience per hour. The logs will make 10k in RuneScape gold, assuming the player is lucky enough to make the sale. Due to the willow surplus, it’s best to train firemaking with the logs. Find a willow tree without many players and an open area in which to burn the wood.

Maple logs are obtained in Members worlds but can be burned by nonmembers. Maple logs sell for twice the amount as willow, and many F2P players buy the maple to power level their firemaking skill faster.

Yew logs are obtained from yew trees. Yew trees are relatively rare in RuneScape. There are three yew trees east of the Grand Exchange in the courtyard, three yews south of Falador, four yew trees west of Lumbridge castle, two yew trees in Edgeville, and a few further from banks. Due to easy banking, the Varrock and Edgeville yew trees are chopped the most. Yew logs are in high demand by RuneScape members, who power level their fletching and magic skills by making and high-alching the yew longbows for RuneScape gold. Yew requires level 60 in woodcutting to chop. Once a RuneScape player hits level 60, he can make between 40k and 70k RuneScape Gold an hour while gaining 17k to 26k in woodcutting experience. Yew logs are slow to cut but are very profitable due to their high value. Estimates vary due to player saturation inhibiting production.

So this is the potential in the different ways of F2P RuneScape woodcutting. Yew makes the best RuneScape gold, Willow is the best wood for power leveling woodcutting with firemaking in F2P, and Oak makes a decent amount of RuneScape gold with moderate skill experience. Normal logs fail in both aspects and should only be used in power leveling woodcutting and firemaking to level 15.
