Do you have children that absolutely love guitar hero? I do, and it is all my son talks about. Last year he wanted a "guitar hero" theme birthday party. I found it difficult to find any party favors with guitar hero on it.

Do you have children that absolutely love guitar hero? I do, and it is all my son talks about. Last year he wanted a "guitar hero" theme birthday party. I found it difficult to find any party favors with guitar hero on it. Instead, I decided to decorate around the cake, using the cake as the focal point. Besides, it is one of the most important ingredients to a birthday party. Not only did my son love it, but it was a huge hit at the party. I hope this cake will make other children as happy as it made my son.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Cake:
  • 1 box of Butter Recipe Golden, Duncan Hines
  • 2/3 C water
  • 1/2 C softened butter (1 stick)
  • 3 large eggs
  • Icing:
  • 2 lbs of confectioner's sugar
  • 2 tsps. vanilla
  • 1/2 C milk
  • 2 sticks softened butter

Mix cake mix, water, butter, and eggs in a large mixing bowl until well blended. Pour the batter into a 8x10 baking pan that has been greased and lightly floured. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or as directed on the box. Cool on wire rack.
Butter Cream Icing: Place butter in a mixing bowl. Mix on low until slightly softened. Add vanilla. Gradually add confectioner's sugar 1 cup at a time. Blend on low, scraping the bowl down in between. Add milk slowly, until you reach the desired consistency. *I am not sure where I got this recipe but it is not mine. It is the best icing I have found for decorating cakes and it is delicious. To make the "platter" for the cake, use a large piece of cardboard that is very sturdy, and cover it with aluminum foil. Tape the edges down on the back side of the cardboard.
Place the cake onto the platter. With a knife, lightly trace the shape of the guitar that you want. After you have decided on the exact shape, cut completely through the cake. Make sure to keep the extra cake intact. It will be used for the arm of the guitar. Place the extra pieces to form the arm and anywhere that you need to make the desired shape. Apply a thin coating of icing to start. Use the icing as a "glue" to attach the arm and all the extra pieces. Build up the icing and blend in to make it look as if the cake is one piece. After you are done icing the cake completely, you can decorate it. I used my sons guitar as a color pattern. There are a lot of different guitars for Guitar Hero, so use one that is similar to your child's. You can add food coloring  to make the desired color for decorating or you can add different candies for decoration.
