There are a number of career choices that focus on vocational education and do not require even the four traditional years of college. Some careers are even easier to enter because you can receive the equivalent of on the job training.

Do you love all things furry? Then you might want to consider a career in a pet related business. Professional Groomer: This job requires that you can a knack for handling the shears on not so always cooperative pooches. You can help them put their step out in diva doggie style.
You can start working for a shop or take advantage of franchises like mobile pet grooming. You can work from your home or start your own up town doggie spa. Check out the Petco site they have a list of programs offering dog grooming classes.

Pet Care Specialist- This is an entry level job for folks who want to work in a variety of animal care settings. Pet care specialist or other equivalent job titles can cages and care for animals in all different settings. You could find yourself working at a doggie day care, pet clinic , or county dog shelter. You might be providing these types of service to individual dog owner. It is a great job for a student studying to be a groomer or veterinary assistant as you can get an idea of the broader range of setting you may have your future career in.  Energetic retirees can also take these kinds of jobs if they want to make a little extra money and enjoy the company of animals. . Younger teens can volunteer for these types of positions at their local animal rescue and really get a chance to make a difference in individual animal’s lives.

 Veterinarian Assistant: this position can range from being an office manager in a large pet clinic to being someone who actually helps the veterinarian with actual medical procedures. You could work in practice that deals mostly with dogs or cats or rural practices that treat live stock and horses.  You can get any thing from a certificate to a two year associate degree when you train to be a Veterinarian Assistant.

Professional Dog Trainer- this job includes trainer who work with individual pets or conduct large classes in a dog obedience school. Dog trainers can sometime train dogs for specialized search and rescue work or drug detections. Groups that train dogs to work with the physically disabled employ the services of Professional dog training.

Professional Pet Business managers-

These are a group of jobs of people who manage the various aspects of pet related businesses as consultants or as part of a larger pet focused organization. The best way to enter this type of business is to get the low down on the day to day operations of the aspect of the pet industry by working in an entry position in the area of animal care that you will to specialize. Then you can take the business management classes that would benefit you the most in the area of pet products or service you have been working in.

This is a great area for people who want to impact the lives of animals but prefer an office setting.

There are a number of specialized programs and franchise opportunities that can help anyone start a commercial pet clothing boutique, doggie day care, or other pet service small business. Pet walking and pet sitting can again be done by individuals for friends and family to earn a little extra money. The best opportunities are those that are well thought out and organized. The principals of starting a successful small business will provide the best kind of knowledge if you want to start a small pet service related businesses.

There is no doubt many pet related careers I have over looked and not even thought of. Search the internet to get a better picture of how to take your passion for pets and turn it into a profitable career. Then when you find out what interests you talk to the people who have succeeded in that niche of pet products and services. Successful business people are always glad to share their story of success with others and encourage them as the next generation of successful entrepreneurs.
