So you decided you were tired of being a blonde or a redhead and took the drastic step of dying your hair black. Now you realize you don't like it and want to go back to your original color. What can you do? Black hair dye can be a challenge to remove from your hair. If you used a semi-permanent hair color rather than a permanent one, the black hair dye should gradually wash out of your hair over time with repeated shampooing. If you used a permanent black hair dye, hair coloring removal will be more of a challenge. Here's how to remove black hair dye from your hair:
Remove black hair dye using special shampoos.
This won't work in every case but it's the least damaging approaching to removing black hair dye. Go to your local drugstore or beauty supply shop and purchase the strongest clarifying shampoo available. There are special clarifying shampoos designed to remove chlorine from the hair which also work well for removing hair coloring. Another alternative is to shampoo with Head and Shoulders shampoo which is known to strip the hair of color deposits. You may need to shampoo repeatedly to see results.
Remove black hair dye with Loreal Color Zap.
Loreal makes a kit called Loreal Color Zap Color Remover Kit that's designed to completely remove permanent hair color. To use this product, carefully follow the directions in the kit and you should be able to remove your black hair color. This product does have some bleaching action so your hair will be a bit lighter than your virgin hair color shade which means you'll probably want to recolor your hair with a more suitable shade once the black hair color is removed. This product can also cause some mild damage to the hair so be sure to use a high quality conditioner after completing the black hair dye removal process.

Many people will attempt to bleach their colored hair to lift the color out. This can not only cause damage to your hair, your hair may also end up a very unflattering shade of red.
