Do you have a website that frustrates you because you have been hoping to make money from it but you don’t have significant visitor to your site? Do not give up. A good keyword research will help you to increase your visitor to your site.

Keyword Research is an important skill for all internet marketers.  Good keyword research can boost your position in the search engine to be in the first page for a specific keyword.  Having your site in the first page of search engine will definitely increase your traffic.  One of the things you need to do is to find the right keyword.  The right keyword is a keyword with high search volume (high demand) but has only a few sites found in the search engine (low competition).  Here are some brief steps to do a proper keyword research:

  1. If you don’t have a topic for your website in mind, brainstorm your ideas.  Here are several ways to generate ideas.  List in a piece of paper all things that related to your work, hobbies, etc.  Try to list as many as possible.  If you still need ideas, you can also brainstorm by surfing in the internet.  You can try to go to http://www.google.com/sktool, http://www.amazon.com and etc.
  2. Understand the market competition of the keyword in the search engine.  You can do this by actually typing in your keyword in google to see the search volume.   I will focus on google here, because 70% of users use google as their search engine.  You can see how many web pages are found here.  The number shown here is the number of web pages that has the keyword in their content.  To see the actual competition in google, you can put allintitle: in front of your keyword so that you only see the total result of web pages that put the keyword in the title page.  If you found that your keyword is too competitive, you can always go with the long tailed keyword, for example: the long tailed keyword for bicycle engines are bicycle engines for low rider, bicycle engines accessories, bicycle engines’ review, etc.  You can generate them yourself or you will have a list of long tailed keywords when you do step 3.
  3. Understand the market demand of the keyword in the search engine.  One of the most common tool used here is Google Adwords: Keyword Tool ( https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal).  You can set the language and the region of you target market in this tool.  This tool gives you the search volume per month (which determines your demand) and a list of the long tailed keywords with their search volume to analyze.  You can also set the language and region of your analysis.
  4.  Repeat step 2 and 3 until you find a keyword which has high demand and low competition.  For beginner internet marketer, I recommend choosing allintitle less than 1000.

There are many others tool available to do keyword research available.  I personally use Keyword Research Pro to help my keyword research project.  Instead of doing step 2 and step 3 above keyword per keyword, Keyword research Pro can analyze your keyword list at once.  You can visit: http://www.bestkeywordresearchtool.info. for more info.
