Over Twenty-Five Ways to Reduce Your Weight.
Learn what a holistic doctor has to offer in the way of advice and several other techniques that will help control your weight
For starters, we have been brain-washed to believe that if we skip meals, we will lose weight. Actually, if we skip food, the body thinks the food supply is dwindling or gone. It will pile on the fat to keep from starving. If we eat breakfast and graze during the day, the body thinks the food is abundant and gives up the calories for metabolism.
Imitate the French by eating slowly, smaller portions of real food, and they use butter, not trans fat. They drink wine, which is actually good food in moderation. They also eat for pleasure. If we enjoy our meals we are less likely to feel deprived, so we are satisfied with the lessor amount we eat. And chew all bits of food to mush before swallowing.
Another thing to keep the weight off, don’t eat within three hours of going to bed. Sumo wrestlers do that to gain weight on purpose. They also drink a couple of beers before bed to help that weight gain.
Again, being overweight is not our fault. The Food industry is against us in favor of profits. Back in the first decade of the 1900s, a company made a trial food for feeding turkeys. When fed this diet, the turkeys died. To not waste the research dollars, they tinted this product and sold it as oleo, Crisco shortening or margarine. Trans fats were born in 1911. In the fifties, Dr. Ancel Keys did research and reported that this artificial food and processed oils were causing health problems, heart disease and so forth. The oil manufacturers hired Dr. Keys to do more research on their tab and he subsequently reported that it was that nasty old natural butter and butterfat causing all that disease. (!)
High Fructose Corn syrup (Evil incarnate) is processed through the liver, not the pancreas, and causes a copper deficiency at the very least. This causes skin to age as badly as excess sun exposure. It also causes damage to growing bodies, hearts, lungs and especially in male children who report smaller testes. Maybe this is Nature’s way of culling the gene pool.
To get your appetite under control, weed high Fructose Corn syrup out of your diet completely or as nearly as possible. This non-food causes an unnatural craving for food, so we eat more to compensate. And this junk is in everything from diet foods to baked goods as a browning agent, to cereals, to virtually all commercial sodas, to all juices, even “natural” ones. Unless it says “all fruit” juice, it is likely contaminated with HFCS. READ YOUR LABELS. Avoid all sugar substitutes and use little sugar because of its readiness to spike blood sugar. Use the herb stevia to replace white sugar in your eating plan. It is a very sweet herb found at health food stores. The taste is sweet when added in small doses.
Go organic as far as possible, learn to cook with healthy ingredients to avoid trans fats and high fructose additives, also called Maltodextrin, Dextrose, sucrose and so forth. Research has shown that Splenda short-circuits the short-term memory.
Diet sodas have a phenylanalanine toxin and this is a diuretic which causes your nutrition to be lost and that causes food cravings. Juice your own drinks and add sparkling water for a soda substitute that will pay back dividends galore.
Too much caffeine dehydrates the body with only a few benefits like wakefulness. Beer and hard alcohol are diuretics and irritants that hustle liquid out of your body through the kidneys and bladder. This takes out the fluid that is supposed to help make healthy blood volume while adding nutrients before being absorbed. Wine is a good food, however. The acidity in the beverage is good for digestion as long as you aren’t drinking an entire box a night. A glass is acceptable.
Avoid sugar as a toxin and flour. Potatoes are not a bad food and eat butter on them, if you like, not a margarine Get your best nutrition to kill cravings: Eggs, especially organic Omega Three eggs, are fine with folic acid and protein and even iron. They help abate hunger with their nutrition.
Drink your organic milk with the butterfat still in it because the Vitamin A is in it for your eyes, skin and mucus membranes and tastes good. Soy milk comes organic and works fine as a serving of vegetable and one less of dairy for each substitution. Learn to love salmon because three ounces of that has lots of calcium and 530 Units Vitamin D to help control your appetite.
Candida yeast builds up in the intestines and inhibits absorption, making you hungry. Candida yeast loves refined sugars. When we are chronically hungry with cravings for sweets, it is an indication of what would be Pica in a horse, a nutritional deficiency. You literally eat like a horse when in this state and the pounds pile on never to come off unless you educate yourself. Once cleansed you will find that stomach pouch you had is gone and meals will space themselves out closer to every four hours or longer.
Get a juicer and drink lots of cleansing combinations to rid your system of bad things. These also count as enzyme servings of live foods.
A liver cleanse of teas or juices is OK and is better-tasting than I envisioned. This helps the liver recuperate from the HFCS in the diet and other toxins, and to help eliminate the 15,000 ingredients that can be in our foods, LEGALLY, but, not on the label, to the detriment of our health. Eat foods with antioxidants like blueberries and dark chocolate. (Yes! Our prayers are answered..)
Exercise is good, but should be enjoyable. Do something you like to do and walking is great for everything. Walk someplace besides to the ‘fridge briskly everyday. This helps with energy, muscle tone and state of mind since I mean outdoor walking. Yoga is grand and can be done indoors if need be. Do a few minutes worth within 20 minutes of eating to take advantage of the thermal burn you experience with digestion.
Get the six tastes in your diet daily to avoid cravings, Dr. Deepak Chopra advises. Sweet, sour and salty are the three most common tastes and we get those in fries with ketchup. Meats, breads, cereals and so on are sweet, ketchup, lemon and sour kraut are sour, and salty is just that.
Beans and lintels are astringent tasting, while lettuce and greens are bitter. You need some of these tastes daily too. Pungent is the taste of spicy food and this marvel can raise your metabolism as much as 25% which pushups will never be able to match. Hot mustard, curry, jalapenos, most peppers in fact, are in this grouping. Get the six tastes in your diet daily and you will find the need for extraneous food diminishes.
Also, taste your food by not doing anything but eating when you eat. No TV, Books, doing the crossword. Just concentrate on eating for it is pleasurable in itself. Enjoy it with your family or alone. Pretty dishes and a good presentation help with the enjoyment.
Only eat when you are hungry, about every four hours. If you taste your food and eat reasonably with the cleanses done, this timing will not be the burden it used to be. Don’t eat late, either. Stop eating at least three hours before bedtime. Eat a big breakfast, instead, to get the metabolism started for the day.
Good manners will help your weight go down by taking one reasonable bite at a time, no talking with your mouth full, chew a lot and swallow each bite before taking another. The chewing starts digestion and is necessary to thoroughly get the nutrition out. The slow chewing and swallowing help the brain learn that you are eating. It takes twenty minutes, they claim, for the stomach to signal the brain it has had food.
Go Organic, as was mentioned. DES and other growth hormones are in most meats and poultry. They stay in the flesh and help fatten us up too. Organic or vegetarian is a smart way to eat. Dairy has lots of bad things unless organically produced. Drink filtered water, not tap or even ground water with its pollutants from non-organic farms and industry.
Concentrate on side dishes for more vegetables and filling foods. Meat has no fiber and is full of DES, antibiotics, toxins from the environment and fat. It should be minimized as the Chinese do. Further, eat more Japanese foods because they eat kelp and things that are healthy and tasty without being fattening.
Eat a salad with each meal for the water content, fiber and some of the six tastes included.. Fruit salad or vegetable is fine. Remember green bean salad, Waldorf and Ambrosia are all salads, not just tossed greens. Pickles aren’t really a salad but they are vegetarian. They are sour, in case you missed that taste otherwise. Pickles are acidic and help digest foods.
Brush you teeth after eating because who wants to eat with toothpaste taste in the mouth?
Drink the six to eight glasses of pure water daily to eliminate the toxins and keep your blood stream flowing properly. You can substitute juice for some of that water. Use a pretty glass because you like it and fill it often with filtered water.
Take the amount of food that would fill your cupped hands to about two thirds full. That should fill your stomach and still leave room for the digestive process. If not, wait five minutes that eat a bit more because you are really hungry. You might want digestive aids for a while to help your body readjust to better digestion.
Dr. Hyman, a holistic doctor, has a lot to say about losing weight by not dieting for low calories or low fat or carbohydrates, but by changing what you eat to reboot your system. He is appalled by the huge number of children now with diabetes. He relates that for the first time the lifespan of Americans is going down. Our children will live sicker and die younger than our grandparents.
One hundred and twenty-five pounds a year of refined sugar per American has a lot to do with this higher mortality rate. Children and adults are consuming more and more sugar in cereals, breads, snack foods, and main dishes.
Here’s a list of basic principles from the Good doctor to make a new body. The genes make changes daily, so we need to train then to function right in a body that is supported by our habits. In no particular order, Dr. Hymon reveals that these steps to influence your genes to rebuild yourself.
1. Eat foods we like that nourish us: Real foods.
2. Eat Fruits and veggies in variety . If they are cooked, made sure they are cooked properly, not necessarily fried. That’s for eggs after all.
3. Eat Breakfast. Eat about every four hours all day long to keep your body thinking there is an abundant food supply and it doesn’t need to hoard food. Quit grazing three hours before bed.
4. Exercise doing something you like daily. (Qi gong is relaxing and energizing at the same time.)
5. Eat fiber. We learned that 35 milligrams are optimum. Eat them in whole foods.
6. Get Omega Three oils in your diet daily, 2 to 4 grams of them in wild salmon or sardines. Capsules work, too. The new eggs on the market have Omega 3s on purpose.
7. Eat lean protein of high quality, including beans, nuts of all kinds such as almond and macadamia, grass-fed beef, chicken, eggs, fish. Try Miso for a different taste.
8. Be sensible about the glycemic load. Carrots are a high glycemic food with their natural sugars, but it takes two pounds of carrots to affect blood sugar. The cellulose helps absorb slower. So does eating oatmeal. A bowl with nuts, raisins or flax seeds and topped with soy milk is an excellent breakfast or afternoon snack.
9. Eat the anti-inflammatory foods to prevent a Alzheimer’s and cancer and more. Fish oils again, vegetables with phyto nutrients, antioxidants such as green tea and chocolate (Yeah, again!). Dark Chocolate is a weight-loss food even. All of these are the good foods: Salmon, fruits and vegetables, garlic, olive oil, chocolate and wine. These foods can extend your life by seven years. The health boost is worth its weight in gold.
10. There are 80,000 new toxins in our world than we had at the turn of the century. Detoxify your body with cleanses, good cleansing foods like, broccoli, greens and celery, Green tea, and ginger. Pomegranates and watercress are good for this, as well.
11. Drink Water, filtered, as we cannot control what is in the aquifer or tap water. (We have gone on and on about the need for more water to save your life.)
12. Eat Breakfast. It gets the metabolism going.
13. Avoid these additives like the plague: high fructose corn syrup and trans fats. They block the metabolism, leading to diseases like heart disease and cancer. The doctor wasn’t kidding about this either. We really need essential fatty acids and trans fats get in the way.
14. Ingest good supplements, especially Omega three oils and vitamin E to keep blood platelets slippery.
I hope this helps you get control of your weight and eating habits for more wellness. * * *
LIFE-SAVING NOTE: Avoid refined sugars and white flour as they create hyperinsulinism, the first stage toward Type II diabetes. It also begins heart disease by adding triglycerides to the blood. This is what sticks to the veins and clogs arteries. Plaque is this junk building up. Low bad carb diets are the ticket and add fats, like virgin olive oil, unrefined virgin coconut oil, butter if you eat cow products. Higher fat diets have lower blood serum levels of triglycerides than the low fat diets produce. Don’t let a doctor/pusher give you drugs to release more insulin to your body. You are getting too much already and it will kill you.
Insulin failure needs insulin supplements, Hyperinsulinism creates insulin resistence which will make you store fat, and eventually obesity is your fate. Being overweight isn’t your fault but doctors will prescribe drugs that acerbate the problem. Insanity, except this creates patients for (shortened) life. * * *
