How to beautifully wrap Maltese hair
Maltese, popularly known as ‘Bichon Maltais’ in French, is a special kind of toy dog that I love very much and largely because of its long, silky hair. This lovely dog requires intensive care when taking care of its hair and great commitment.
If you are the type that does not have patient spending longer time taking care of dog like Maltese, then I advise you do not go for one.
1) The first thing you must do is make sure you clean your Maltese thoroughly as it will makes no sense when you are wrap up its hair when its dirty.
2) Put the dog on a clean, wide table. Ensure that it STANDS STRAIGHT. This will make it easier for you to gather up its hair together in one fold. Make sure you spread its usual cleaning rug on the table before you put it there.
3) Speak gently and try to make your dog comfortable otherwise it will not make it easy for you to wrap its hair. You know how you use to talk that can bring that confidence for it to relax.
4) Blow dries its hair with hair dryer. You may use yours but be careful, do not turn it too high that it will be hot for your dog. Remember, your dog is not you. So you can just turn the hair dryer switch to cool breeze. If the hair is dried, it will be easier for you.
5) Use a metallic comb BUT small in size to come the hair upward from its eyes. Be careful when doing this. Raise that stretch of hair you come upward away from its eyes and tie it with an elastic rubber band.
6) Pack up the hair around its neck. Depending on which part of its hair you want to wrap or leave.
7) Go back to the hair you tied with a rubber band, remove the band and add it to the hair you packed from its neck. SWITCH on the hair dryer again and blow dry this packed hair.
8) Put the packed up hair in a bigger but tight rubber lovely band. Then put on a COLOURFUL RIBBON of your desired colour. Let the hair fall on the ribbon.
9) Start by TWISTING the hair in a lock type like tying a rope but do it gently. Twist it round like a ball under and toward the back of its head so that some part of the colour ribbon especially the front view will still be visible when you are done.
10) As you are twisting, put some SOFT PLASTIC HAIR PINS holder to hook the twist unto the body of the ribbon. PUT these PINS in different parts until you have gotten a ball-like wrap.
11) Step back and take a look at your Maltese to check if you have gotten your wrap. You can use your fingers to adjust the fold in places. That’s it!
Remember to keep talking to your dog while you are doing this. You can also sing it lovely song (that is if you know this already). It will help you greatly.
Also note that caring for your Maltese is like caring for a baby.
DO NOT use any Vaseline gel or oily product on your Maltese when packing its hair. It will mess its neatness up later and you will end up hating yourself for this.
