As a child, I remember rat used to be (and is still) our major pest problem at home. No matter how we kill them, they return in large number and this caused lots and lots of headaches for us, especially my mother who trades in raw foodstuff and several groceries.

You can imagine the fun and horror mixed up when as a child, I used to join my sisters and brothers in hot pursuit of rat spotted in the house. It was fun sometimes but at the same times, it could be hell.

Rats are no friends to any one unless you have it caged down but what do you do in a society where rats become unwanted enemies? What if you are about to open the food storage box and all of a sudden, a rat jumps out, fleeing past you at such speed that can suck the breath out of you? There are times you will find several holes at the button of food grains and the only thought that will come to your mind at that instant is; RAT.

Below are the steps of the FASTEST trap we made at home to capture the invaders (RAT) and not just capture them but ALIVE!

1)      Get a small size FLAT, FOUR SQUARE WOODEN BOARD.  Make sure the wood is neither too heavy nor light in weight.

2)      Get a STRONG and THICK, STICKY but LIQUID ADHESIVE GUM. Ensure that the smell is not too strong.

3)      POUR the THICK, STICKY but LIQUID ADHESIVE GUM on the FLAT, FOUR SQUARE WOODEN BOARD. If the GUM is THICK as required, it will stay on the WOODEN BOARD and not drip off it.

4)      Get a PIECE of FRIED MEAT or FISH; and STICK THE BOTTOM of the FISH or MEAT in the MIDDLE of the WOODEN BOARD already filled with the ADHESIVE GUM.

5)      See to it that the PIECE of MEAT or FISH is in the MIDDLE as instructed.

6)      DO NOT stick the entire PIECE into the ADHESIVE GUM on the WOODEN BOARD; just a tiny part but deep enough so that it won’t pull out.

7)      With extreme care, CARRY the WOODEN BOARD to a HIDDEN CORNER in the kitchen or where you want to capture the rats. PLACE IT THERE and HIDE AWAY

8)      Then wait until the next day. There is every tendency a rat will be trapped on your prepared WOODEN BOARD and ALIVE!

If you do this accurately, there is no way you won’t found a live rat or two stuck on the board and you will have the feast of treating them to whatever punishment you want.

This works faster and effective at nights. So do when it’s almost bedtime.

Please be careful if you have children and dogs in the house. You need to hide this away from them. Do not let your dog be aware of this. You know how active dogs are.
