Learn how to choose and find glues that can be used to stick plastic pieces together.

There are many hobbies where two plastic pieces may have to join together, model cars come to mind. Often, these pieces don’t fit together very tightly and can jar loose from movement or being bumped. If you enjoy building model cars like I this can be a real bummer and it only leaves you with one choice, gluing the pieces together.

First off, we’re certainly aren’t going to use the typical Elmer’s glue, its white appearance won’t look good with the model and its way too thick. To properly glue two plastic pieces together it is best to have a more transparent glue to dab into holes and small nooks. Any kind of clear super glue that can be found in a small that has a small thin nozzle, for delicate applications, should work. Gorilla Glue is a personal favorite of mine but there are a million brands of super glue out there to choose from.

One other specific kind of glue you can look into is Epoxy. It’s a super powerful adhesive that is often used for surfboards, aircrafts, and car bodies (the real kind of car not the plastic models J). Epoxy glue is also suitable for more casual use and can be purchased in less industrial size portions; this makes it great for plastic models as well.

If you’re still stuck go to a local hobby shop and ask the owner. Or you could also go to a larger home care store, like Home Depot or Lowes. There go to the glue section and they’ll typically have them sorted by application. Obviously, you need to look for the ones that are usable for plastics.
