Ever wantet to take your desktop with you. I will tell you how to put Linux on a Usb stick and how to run it from any computer in the world. Then you can have all of your documents with you on a trip or vacation.

There have always been some restrictions on using a CD or DVD to run Linux from. You couldn't save any of your files but at least you didn't had to change the boot order on your Computer. I will get back to that.

Before you start you must have a usb stick with at least 1 gigabyte of storage. You can easily use a bigger on but i all depends on if you to download programs that your Linux usb stick can save an run.

Then go to https://fedorahosted.org/liveusb-creator/ an download the LiveUsb-Creator (a .zip file). After that unzip the folder an run the liveusb creator. There you will have to chose which version of Fedora you want. Right now version 11 is the newest one. Then choose the target drive (The place you have put your usb in).    Choose the amount of persisent storage you want. That is the amount of space you can save files and programs to.

After that just press Create Live USB. This process can take some time depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

When its done shut your computer down. (While the USB is still in). Under the boot press F8 or F12 or something. It depends on your computer. But at least try to hit the one that says boot-order or something like that. In the menu that appears set the usb to the first boot device.

Then hit ENTER or ESC or something like that (depends on your computer) to save and quit. The Computer should know restart and this time it will start the Fedora Linux. and you will be introduced to a nice blue desktop.

Have fun.

Mark.
