There are certain things to remember upon taking medications.

It is very important to pay particular attention to how often we and what medications we are taking. Too much of everything is can obviously do harm rather than good.  The American Heart Association have suggested the following to insure safety and effective management in taking medications.

-          Medications should be stored in a cool dry and dark place. Certain areas such as bathroom, kitchen  may tend to cause moisture and eventually make the medication unreliable.

-          Certain drugs can be taken together. However there are other drugs that cannot be taken together since they may create reactions when mix. Consult the doctor for proper intake. This over the counter drugs are very common to be mixed with other drugs considering that they can be bought without prescription and naturally beyond the control of the doctor.

-          Follow the doctor’s advice on how medications are taken. As long as the it is the doctor that prescribes the medication.

-          Keep an update of your medication supplies. As much as possible never run out of it.

-          Buy all medications in one pharmacy if possible. This will make it easy for you to keep track of it.

-          Maintain a good relationship with the pharmacist. It would certainly be good if you can consult with the same pharmacist every time. They can answer questions regarding your medication and of course give you advice.

-          Always tell the doctor about all your medications. This include anything, from over the counter including herbal medications or alternative medications you have taken.

-          Certain drugs may have some side effects. Share to the doctor, there is always a possibility that the side effects can be prevented from causing you to suffer.

-          Take the medication as is. Do not deform, crush or change it in any form unless advised by the pharmacist. You have to remember that it may affect the way the medication works.
