Professor Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser) and nephew, Sean (Josh Hutcherson) set out for an expedition in search of the trail left behind by Sean's dad and Trevor's brother, Max Anderson. They found themselves flying through Iceland following the secret code they found in the book Journey to the Center of the Earth.

In Iceland, they were guided by a gorgeous and skillful mountain guide, Hannah (Anita Briem) who was also in search of her scientist father's whereabouts. The adventure starts when they got trapped inside a cave. Hardly they knew, that the only way they can go out is to go down - miles and miles down - and then go up again, through the lava firing them up in the air. It's funny how they fell and how they were able to go up again, so it's better to see it for yourself.

Brendan Fraser is as funny as he was in his other adventure films. Anita Briem is really a head turner and you can already conclude what will happen in the end. Josh Hutcherson is one of my favorite child actor and I can't believe how much he'd grown. He played his role as somewhat aloof much less snob teenager who has a sensitive character which is very close to his other past appearances in movie like Zathura.

I really like the part when they are able to reach the center of the earth, they saw creatures that appeared to be extinct in the surface of the Earth, not only dinosaurs, glowing birds but also huge carnivorous plants. They realized that what the people wrote in the book were actually true - world within the world - also bringing them to conclusion that the book itself is their guide on this mystical journey.

Reminiscent of the classic TV show, the Swiss Family Robinson, the 2008 remake of the Jules Verne classic, Journey to the center of the Earth is a good watch for the young and old alike. The effects were an upgraded version of the old cinematic effects of the 1980s which added to the nostalgic feel of the film.

What makes this a great film for the family is that it tells a good classic story for children and enables the parents to reminisce on a timeless adventure. At the end of the film, the lead character hints off a sequel to the film in a scene where the lead character hands a book to the boy entitled, "Atlantis…".

I rate this movie 9 out of 10. You can have a few laughs and slight tear and off to a great adventure. Although I don't think this can happen in real life, it's a great way to past the time and have fun with your family.
