Artificial sweeteners have been getting bashed a lot lately in the press. After all, there has been a ton of research that has come out that has talked about all kinds of health issues being associated with high consumption these particular sweeteners however, the biggest might be stomach fat. Most people don't realize that artificial sweeteners do cause stomach fat gain which is also tied into our daily diet.

How can they cause weight gain you might ask. First off, most people consume horrible food (think fast food) when they drink beverages that are flavored with artificial sweeteners. For example what does a diet soda commonly go with. A pizza maybe or hamburgers. A lot of it has to do with our mindset. We think it's ok for us to consume diet soda since they are calories free but the sweet taste of the chemicals can lead to stomach fat because of the foods that we consume with it.

Another issue is that sweeteners contain fat increasing bad carbohydrates like dextrose that is only found in candy and other blood sugar raising carbohydrates. These carbohydrates impact our blood sugar and cause it to spike fast and drop faster.

Another important issue when it comes to artificial sweeteners and stomach fat to how many calories that we consume over the course of the day. We all know or at least should know that in order to lose weight we need to eat less calories then we did the day before the calories in vs calories out side to weight loss. We know that we have to make smart food choices and those food choices usually involve calorie free drinks or diet soda. So we drink a few of these drinks then think that we've done our body good. However we actually increase our chances of eating more calories before we consume.

Our body thinks that the sweet taste contains calories. Well what happens when we eat something with low calories? We aren't full. If we aren't full then what are we going to do? We'll eat whatever is free for us to eat.

Therefore, we must be cautious of what we consume in conjunction with consume “sweets.”
