Rear wiper covers...

Rear wiper covers that are left on for weeks after the car wash are a mystery to me. What exactly is going on here?

There seems to be a trend in the NE suburbs of Indianapolis. One which has me perplexed and slightly amused. I am not sure if there is a purpose to this, as I am NOT an owner of a vehicle which has a rear wiper. Please someone tell me WHY do you leave the plastic sheath on your rear wiper blade after a car wash?

Is it:
a status symbol?
forgetfulness?
automotive fashion statement?

I am curious to know why I see more and more cars with these little baggies wrapped around the rear wipers. Are you just too lazy to remove it after a car wash? I mean REALLY lazy, because a lot of these SUVs are already dirty enough to need another wash. Do you live on a dirt road, so that the necessity of a car wash is a daily thing?

Given that there are SOME excuses out there, I still do not know why EVERYWHERE I turn there are little plastic baggies on people's rear wipers. I am bewildered.

Maybe there is something I do not know. Maybe it protects that wiper from other elements like wind or something... But it still seems like it would render the wiper useless in case of rain... so why keep it on there? Why not just remove the whole darned wiper if you are going to render it useless anyway.

I will need to find a photo to complement this blog entry.
I merely need to carry my camera with me while driving.

These strange things are EVERYWHERE!!

I just do not get it!
Can someone enlighten me? please!
