Young's Double Chocolate Stout Review
A review of Young's Double Chocolate Stout, a sweet brew that would make a perfect after-dinner drink.
Double chocolate? Chocolate
flavored beer? I guess anything is possible in the world of brewing. They do makechocolate
martinis, but chocolate
combined with a carbonated beverage sounds like either a sure-fire winner or a never-say-it-again loser. Can the Double Chocolate
Stout stand the test of taste, or will my stomach reject it in the most unpleasant way?
Appearance and Aroma. This is by far the sexiest bottle I've seen on a beer. The Double Chocolate
Stout has a slightly hour glass shape, a dark brown bottle, and a label with a deep purple background topped with a gold foil stripe. The lettering is gold and white, adding to the sex appeal. If my wife were a beer, this would be her.
The Double Chocolate Stout is dark in appearance and does smell of roasted cocoa and malts. There is no tinge of alcohol
or overt chemically smell to it. After giving it a swirl, the strength of the chocolate flavoring comes out even more, giving its true identity of dark chocolate. This tested the patience of my tongue.
Taste. Truly a dessert. This tastes as if Lady Godiva's touch was bestowed upon Young's brewing. The Double Chocolate Stout coats your tongue with an even, smooth layering without leaving any bitter aftertaste. The chocolate flavoring fades into the throat with every sip. I recommend holding each sip at the base of your tongue for a second or two before swallowing to get the full blend of roasted malt and dark chocolate.
This is not for every day consumption and should be treated as a special reward for a job well done on your steak. Double Chocolate Stout makes a perfect dessert drink.
