Camping in Los Angles is not as odd as it seems. At first glance, Los Angles is all stores, buildings and freeways. But did you know several parks, museums and campgrounds are located through out Los Angles County, with several parks on the beach or near the Pacific Ocean? Due to wild fires and erosion, it is best to always check the park’s web page before making plans to visit. Advance reservations are highly recommended as the camping season in California is a year around activity, especially with the RV crowd. Here are five campsites around Los Angles that accept tent and RV campers.

East Shore RV Park, 1440 Camper View Road, San Dimas, CA 91773.
The "shore" in the name refers to Puddingstone Lake, east of downtown but close to the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds. It's about 25 miles east from downtown Los Angeles. They can accommodate RVs with over 500 sites and they also have a few family tent camping sites. Make sure to check on-line for current rates and availability. Wilderness Tenting rates currently are: $27.00 per night per site up to three (3) campers or $9.00 per camper per day over three (3) campers at a site. However, no dogs are allowed in the wilderness area. 3 group tenting areas and 25 family tent camp sites are located in a separate rustic area of the park, each with water and fire pits. Coin operated washers and dryers are available in laundry room. A children’s' playground designed for safe play for the young set and a swimming pool with a large deck area is available for sun bathing and relaxing. A fully stocked market and general store are available on site, including bait supplies. Restroom facilities include hot and cold running water, all with showers.

Leo Carrillo State Beach at Malibu, California is located 28 miles north of Santa Monica on Hwy 1.Tent and RV camping is available. Check on-line for current rates and availability. Advance reservations are recommended. The park has 1.5 miles of beach for swimming, surfing, windsurfing, surf fishing and beachcombing. The beach also has tide pools, coastal caves and reefs for exploring. Giant sycamores shade the main campgrounds. The park also features back-country hiking. Nature walks and campfire programs are offered and a small visitor center has interpretive displays. During the summer, children's programs are available. The park was named after Leo Carrillo (1880-1961), actor, preservationist and conservationist, served on the California Beach and Parks commission for eighteen years, and was instrumental in the state's acquisition of the Hearst property at San Simeon. The park is located 28 miles northwest of Santa Monica on the Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1.) WiFi is available. You can access this service if you are within a 150 foot range base of the Ranger Station.

Malibu Beach RV Park includes almost 100 sites for both RVs and tents, just above Dan Blocker State Beach. It is open all year. Many famous sight seeing attractions are easily accessible by the ever growing Los Angles freeway system. A great place to get away from it all - with some active sports mixed in. Check on-line for current rates and availability. Advance reservations are definitely recommended. Tent camping rates are $42 to $60 a night and you must be over 21 to camp in a tent. Pets are not allowed in the tent area but are welcome in the RV sites. This RV Park is not on the beach; it is across the street from Dan Blocker Beach and is approximately 4 miles south of the world famous Zuma Beach (where the television show Bay Watch was filmed). Downtown Malibu is 3 miles south of the park allowing fine dining and shopping if you get bored of the sand and surf lifestyle.

Malibu Creek State Park is 4 miles south of Highway 101 on Las Virgenes/Malibu Canyon Road.
You may have a sense of deja vu in this park which has been used to film any movies and television shows. Set up for tent and RV camping. Check on-line for current rates and availability. Advance reservations are recommended. Situated just 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles, you can go hiking, fishing, bird watching and horseback riding along 15 miles of streamside trail through oak and sycamore woodlands an chaparral-covered slopes. Twenty-five-mile Malibu Creek in the park is the principal water-course of the Santa Monica Mountains - from Boney Mountain to Malibu Lagoon. The park was the center of Chumash Native American life for centuries and was once used to film numerous movies and TV shows, such as Planet of the Apes and M*A*S*H.  

Point Mugu State Park is at 9000 W. Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265. This RV and tent camping is a pretty park along the ocean. Check on-line for current rates and availability. Advance reservations are highly recommended. Some of the campsites are in Sycamore Canyon, across the highway from the beach. Others are along the beach. Point Mugu State Park, located in the Santa Monica Mountains, features five miles of ocean shoreline, with rocky bluffs, sandy beaches, sand dunes, rugged hills and uplands, two major river canyons and wide grassy valleys dotted with sycamores, oaks and a few native walnuts. There are more than 70 miles of hiking trails. The beach also features swimming, body surfing and surf fishing. The park includes the jagged pinnacles of the Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area.  WiFi service enables park visitors with wireless enabled laptop computers or personal digital assistants (PDAs) to access the Internet. You can access this service if you are within a 150 foot range base of the Sycamore Cove Ranger Station. Location/Directions: The beach is 15 miles south of Oxnard on Highway One.
