Learn some easy and efficient ways to save your bookmarks online so whatever computer you're on, you can access them.

For people that use more than one computer to surf the internet, having a way to save bookmarks and addresses of favorite sites online so they can be referred to from a different computer is certainly important. Otherwise you’re either messily jotting down a URL on a crumpled paper or desperately trying to memorize it.

Saving a bookmark online, you could just copy the desired link in to an email and send that to yourself but there are far easier ways which we will outline in this article.

1. Using Social book marking sites such as Delicious save private bookmarks

Social book marking sites are valued as a channel to share your favorite sites/bookmarks with other people but they can also be used to save bookmarks for private viewing (for your eyes only). When you save a link you can give the option to make the link “private” or “hidden” as easily as checking a box or clicking a button. Not all web pages have social book marking buttons such as the Digg it button or a Technorati button. However for FireFox users a great way to save bookmarks to social networking sites such as Digg is by using the Shareaholic add-on. Once installed you can easily save/bookmark any web page to a service of your choice such as delicious, Reddit, Technorati, Digg, Google Bookmarks and many more. A button will be added to FireFox’s window which if clicked presents a drop down menu with a list of your preferred book marking sites (see image below).

Once you save the link to a site of your choice, give the option to “hide” the link and voila you’re done. If you want to save the link for private use and not to share publicly then Google Bookmarks (also included in Shareaholic) is one of the best options as it is made to save bookmarks for your eyes only. More detailed explanation on using Google Bookmarks below.

Below you can see how to “hide” a bookmark on Reddit once you have submitted it.

2. Using Google Bookmarks to save your favorite links/bookmarks

Google bookmarks is a great way to save your favorite bookmarks online for easy viewing from anywhere. Go to http://www.google.com/bookmarks to access Google Bookmarks. Log in with your Google account if you have one or sign up for one now. Once logged in you can add bookmarks as is shown in the bottom left hand corner of the image below and also drag the “Google Bookmark” button onto any space on your browser’s menu bar whether you’re using Internet Explorer, FireFox or anything else. Then if you want to bookmark any page you’re viewing just click the “Google Bookmark” button and a popup window will appear allowing you to immediately save the link.

3. Using InfoAxe for saving bookmarks and internet history online

This awesome add-on is available for FireFox, Internet Explorer and Safari. InfoAxe allows you to save and search your entire internet history (every page you’ve visited) across all the computers you use. Installing it on a browser places an InfoAxe toolbar on the browser window. While the “record” button on the toolbar is activated, InfoAxe will record the addresses of every website you visit and save it to your InfoAxe account on the InfoAxe website. Say you came across a great lasagna recipe on the internet days ago but can’t remember the page’s address. You can search your internet “memory” from any computer by searching for “lasagna recipe” in the InfoAxe search field and find the exact page you viewed. You can also bookmark pages by pressing the “tag” button on the toolbar and view them later from any computer under the “Tags” section in your InfoAxe account web page.

4. Using XMarks to synchronize and save bookmarks online

XMarks (formerly FoxMarks) is a wonderful add-on for FireFox, Internet Explorer and Safari. It synchronizes your bookmarks across all the computers (and browsers) that you use and have XMarks installed on. Install it on one computer, sign up for an XMarks account then start saving bookmarks. When you use a new computer you can download XMarks on its browser (Internet Explorer, FireFox etc.) too and after logging into your XMarks account, be able to retrieve bookmarks saved on the other computer and import them onto your new browser. You can also view all saved bookmarks without installing the add-on (and importing to your browser) by just logging into your XMarks account on the XMarks website (see image below).

Hi,
My use Favoritus.com to save favorites links online, it is easy, and I like it because I can associate my bookmarks with icons(images) that I do myself.
