A recipe for southern delicious hushpuppies. Hushpuppies go great with seafood dishes.

Here is a recipe for delicious easy southern fried hushpuppies. I have been making these for a long time to go with many seafood dishes. This recipe was given to me by my Mom.

In a large bowl put in 2 cups self rising,1 cup cornmeal,1 beaten egg, 1 onion chopped, and 3/4 cup of milk. Stir this all together well in the bowl

. Add 3/4 cup of ketchup and stir it in well. Add Tabsco sauce if you like spicy food.

Heat up 4 cups of vegetable oil in a deep iron skillet or deep frying skillet. Drop the hushpuppies slowly by tablespoon fulls into the skillet they should form into roundish shapes. Leave a little space for frying by putting in 5 or 6 at a time. Fry the hushpuppies until they are golden brown. Take them up with a large slotted spoon onto a  platter or plate lined with paper towels to drain the grease on.

You can add different ingredients to change the flavor of these hushpuppies. Add in chopped hot peppers instead of Tabsco for a Mexican style hushpuppy. Drain a can of corn well and stir the corn in for corny hushpuppies. Bell peppers chopped and mixed in are a good Spanish style for the hushpuppies.

These hushpuppies will be a winner with your friends and family. They are ideal for family get togethers. Try serving them with either fryed or baked fish. A few side dishes such as slaw, fries or baked potato and a cold iced tea will make an unforgettable meal.
