Actos, and its potential side effects

Actos is a widely used antidiabetes drug well regarded for its positive effect on insulin deficiency

One of the leading drugs used to fight diabetes today, Actos is an effective treatment for men and women suffering from diabetes, especially type 2.  The drug causes increased sensitivity for insulin, resulting in a decrease in the amount of blood sugar.  It is also occasionally used to treat fatty liver disease, or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.  It has the potential to be a promising drug, as it avoids some of the pitfalls that often crop up with patients who experience resistance to insulin.

Although Actos is highly effective at regulating blood sugar in some cases of type 2 diabates, it is by no means without its share of potential problems and side effects.  Actos, in a manner similar to many anti-diabetes drugs, is liable to cause side effects including vision impairment, a darkening of the urine, mild to extreme cases of fatigue, and in some people it is known to provoke anxiety.  In addition to these side effects, it is also known to increase the risk of bone fractures.  One study in the year 2007 indicates that it may cause women to experience a higher frequency of bonef ractures, particularly in the upper body and especially the arms.  As a consequence, women suffering from any form of osteoporosis in addition to diabtes types 1 or 2 should consult with a doctor prior to being administered the drug.

Nevertheless, Actos side effects are generally manageable and many people report no major complications with the drug.  Actos, like many antidiabetic drugs I have studied, interacts in a frequently predictable way that permits for doctors and patients alike to observe its effectiveness.
