Movie review of the film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen the IMAX edition.

I don't often purchase a ticket for the IMAX screen because it can be expensive but in the case of Transformers:  Revenge of the Fallen, it was worth the extra money.  This movie was fanstastic on the IMAX screen as only a summer action film can be.  There are some outstanding effects in this movie, it is CG eye candy.  Transfomers  is your typical summer movie, plenty of action, hot girls, explosions and a little light on the plot.  I enjoyed Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as much as I did the original.  It was a great and fun way to beat the summer heat.

If you recall at the end of the first film, Megatron has been defeated and the spark has been destroyed.  The autobots have been invited to stay on the planet and Optimus Prime sent out a message to other Autobots to come to Earth.  When Revenge of the Fallen opens, Sam is off to college leaving Bumblebee behind in his parents garage.  He is also leaving his very pretty girlfriend, Mikaela behind as well. Can they survive a long distance relationship?  And can the Autobots really leave him alone and let him be normal?  Probably not, or there wouldn't be a movie would there?  Seems there is another energy source for the Transformers and the coordinates for this source are inside Sam's head.  So the Destructicons are out to extract this information (physically, I might add) and the Autobots are trying to protect Sam.   The plot might sound a bit farfetched but once it gets rolling, its pretty solid.  Like many other action films there are plenty of holes in the plot but we are all there for the special effects, right?   Plus there is plenty of comedic relief to keep you laughing in between the battles and explosions.

The plot is okay, and for the most part they left the hokey lines from the cartoon out of this one.  The special effects were excellent, lots of new bots, lots of explosions, car chase scenes and every other thing you could want action.  It was phenoniminal watching it on the IMAX.  I love what they can do with CG these days.

The acting was okay.  Shia Labeouf is good as Sam. The kid who wants to be normal but can't.  He does play the geek well.  Megan Fox is there to be pretty as Mikaela and to back Sam up a bit.  We get a new character who is part of the Comedic relief in the form of Leo Spitz, Sam's new roommate.  He is played by Ramon Rodriguez and is quite a funny fellow.  John Turtorro returns as Agent Simmons from sector 7 and our army buddies are back again with Josh Duhamel playing Major Lennox--they get to see some action again too.  Not of these characters are too deep, but then again they don't have to be, its a summer movie and we showed up to see the big robots transform into cool cars.  Anyone know where I can get a Camero that does that?

Will it win an Oscar?  Maybe in the special effects category.  Is it a deep heartfelt film? Nope. Is it entertaining? You'd better believe it.  I had a good time watching it.  Its a great way to get out of the heat.  And spring for the extra to see it on the IMAX, its definitely worth it.
