Be prepared to network with others in your field. Get to know people, really now them, so that you understand their needs and desires. If you just talk to people you can find ways to promote your business wherever you are.

Find a way to position yourself as an expert in your field. You can do this online by creating articles, reports and other information products to sell to your customers. Give a class or speak at a seminar. You will find that everyone in the audience is a prospect. After all, most of them have paid money to be there. They have already demonstrated an interest in the topic and a willingness to spend money to learn more. This is a great way to collect the names and e-mail addresses of people who are fascinated by your topic.

When positioning yourself as an expert, concentrate on what you do best. Stick to just one thing and do it uncommonly well.

You should break your database into different segments; geographical marketing. Let’s say that you have been invited to speak at a seminar. You want to find a way to get the word out to your list, yet you don’t want to tell everybody on your list. Instead, you can use geographical marketing to define the people who live within, say, an 100 mile radius. Send them an e-mail and advise them of the upcoming event. You’d be amazed at how many people respond!
