Remember Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson known as the King of Pop will always be remembered for his music, creativity and being a little on the wacky side. He started out as a child star and stayed in the spotlight until his death on June 25, 2009.
Unfortunately he suffered a cardiac arrest and when the paramedics arrived on the scene, Michael Jackson had no pulse and they tried to revive him but no luck. Shortly after it was confirmed that he had passed.
Born Michael Joseph Jackson on August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana. He was the seventh child out of nine children, born to Joseph Walter and Katherine Esther. At the early age he showed an interest in music and by the age of eight became lead vocals along with his brother Jermaine. Soon after and the group's name was changed to The Jackson 5. After a couple of years singing the Jackson 5 signed with Motown Records in 1968.
The group quickly rose to fame and they had hit after hit under their belt. Their first four songs to make it big were ..
I Want You Back
ABC
The Love You Save
I'll Be There
Michael Jackson was the lead songwriter of the group as well as lead vocals. He was very talented, and no one can argue with that.
Then came his solo album Off the Wall in 1979 with the help of Quincy Jones. Other big names that lent a hand to his solo album include - Stevie Wonder
Paul McCartney
and Heatwave's Rod Temperton
The same year Michael Jackson reportedly broke his nose during a dance routine. Shortly after he had his first rhinoplasty preformed. However that one was not successful and he complained about breathing difficulties so he went to have another one done. That began the surgeries he encountered there after.
Off the wall was a huge success reaching number three on the Billboard 200 list. This album went on to sell 20 million copies worldwide and counting.
In 1980, Michael Jackson went on to win his first three awards at the American Music Awards. As well as taking home the following awards. Billboard Music Awards for Top Black Artist
Top Black Album
Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance (Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough
Another great thing he did was in n 1980,securing the highest royalty rate in the music industry. It was a whopping 37% of wholesale album sales profit. Very well deserved.
His best year ever was in 1982 with his highest ranked album Thriller. The album impressively remained in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 for 80 consecutive weeks. Out of those 80 weeks 37 of were at the top position! It was also the first album to ever have seven Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles. A huge accomplishment. Thriller was the best-selling album of all time, with worldwide sales between 47 million and 109 million copies!
On March 25, 1983, Jackson performed for the first time live on the Motown 25 Yesterday, Today, Forever TV special. He sang both with The Jackson 5 and on his own. It was this show were he debuted his still popular moonwalk dance. 47 million viewers tuned in to see this show! He went on to win eight awards for the Thriller album.
On January 27, 1984, Jackson suffered second degree burns to his scalp after pyrotechnics accidentally set his hair on fire while filming a Pepsi commercial. He was awarded a $1.5 million settlement for the incident and gave it all to the Michael Jackson Burn Center to help other burn victims. Shortly after this he had his third rhinoplasty surgery.
He went on to donate money (millions) to charity organizations. Some of the charities and amounts are the following.
$5 million from the Victory Tour all to charity
The song We Are the World he preformed with Lionel Richie all proceeds went to famine relief for starving people in Africa and United States.
Heal the World Foundation (million were donated by him through money he earned doing concerts)
He publicly drew attention to HIV/AIDS, which was very controversial at the time.
Nelson Mandela Children's Fund
The Red Cross
UNESCO
Warchild
Refugees
As well as many concerts were he donated all to various charities.
In 2000, Jackson was recognized and placed in the book of Guinness World Records for his support of 39 charities. That was more then any other celebrity ever.
Then in 1986 he went on to have a fourth rhinoplasty and had a cleft put in his chin. He went on to star in the Francis Ford Coppola directed 3-D film Captain EO. It was then featured in Disneyland's Tomorrowland area for almost 11 years. Soon after he was said to have both lupus and vitiligo which made him sensitive to the sunlight so he tried to stay out of the sun as much as possible. Then the treatments he was using for his condition lighten his skin tone drastically and everyone speculated he bleached his skin.
Jackson had bad self esteem through the years and many even claimed, (including medical professionals), he suffered from body dysmorphic disorder. He openly spoke about abuse he suffered as a child from his father with Oprah Winfrey in 1993. He openly talked about how he missed his childhood years because he was forced to work hard. If he did not work u to his dad's standards then his dad would both mentally and physically abuse him. He stated that he often cried out of loneliness as a child. His childhood was something he could never heal from and he suffered greatly from the mental pain.
He did go on to make other albums that did well but never quit as well as Thriller. He was later accused of child sexual abuse which he was acquitted of. Many fans stood behind him and many people did not. Due to the stress of the whole ordeal he started to take painkillers, Valium, **** and Ativan. He went on to have several struggles with the peoples allegations although he was again acquitted of all charges.
IN 1994 he married singer songwriter Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley. It was a short lived marriage lasting less then two years. He went on to marry a dermatologist nurse named Deborah Jeanne Rowe. They had one son together whom they named Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr. They also had a daughter, named Paris Michael Katherine Jackson. In 1999 they divorced and Michael had sole custody of the children. In 2002 Michael had a third child named Prince Michael Jackson II, reportedly by artificial insemination from a surrogate mother with the use of his own sperm cells.
He has won so many different awards including -
World Music Awards' Best-Selling Pop Male Artist of the Millennium
American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award
Bambi Pop Artist of the Millennium Award
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, two times one for The Jackson 5 and one for his solo career
Songwriters Hall of Fame
Guinness World Records,several
13 Grammy Awards
13 number one singles, for his solo work
Many more awards as well!
In the end there is much more to be said about Michael Jackson and all the goodness inside of him. When you are celebrity people always want to find the negative in you, and even makeup stories to throw them down. Since he was always acquitted of the charges he was accused of, there will always be those few that still think he is guilty, even though he was found innocent. He was a great dancer, singer, father, choreographer, friend, brother, giver, spokesperson, celebrity, and influence for millions! He changed the way people view music and so many people look up to him. He will live on forever as a legacy and will always be known as the King of Pop. Allow him to rest in peace!
