If you click on the Forum name in the Topic area, you’ll see the main forum screen with the description your tutor wrote when he/she created the forum.

Below the description, you’ll see a link labelled “Add a new discussion topic….” You can use this to create a discussion in the forum.

Subscription links

When you open a discussion on the top right corner of the screen, you’ll see a Help menu question mark button and a links ‘Subscribe to this forum’ which will subscribe you when you click it, depending on whether your tutor is forcing everyone to subscribe or not.

How to create a new Discussion:

1. Click on the “Add a new discussion topic...” link.
2. On the new discussion topic page, give your new Discussion a meaningful name.
3. Type your discussion in the message text box and click Post to forum

How to add a post to a Discussion:

1. Click on the Discussion you wish to post too.
2. Each discussion has a thread to the conversation.  Once you have read the thread, click ‘Reply’, which will be positioned at the bottom right corner of the post you want to reply to

Type your message in the message text box and click Post to forum

Attachment: If you want to attach a file, such as an MS Word document or a picture (jpeg, gif), click the Browse button, find your document on your computer, and click Open. Be sure your document is smaller than the maximum attachment size for the forum.

Lastly click Post to forum – you will be allowed 1 hour to edit your post before others can read your contribution. After 1 hour minutes, you cannot edit your post.

After the editing time has passed, your message will be emailed to all subscribers. If you have opted to receive emails of posting, the email will have a link labelled “Reply to forum,” which will take you right to the message in the forum so they can post a reply.

If your tutor has allowed for students, at the bottom of the screen, below all the posts in the discussion, you’ll see a button labelled “Send in my latest ratings.” Select a rating for the post and click the button.
