How to turn an old pair of trousers into s brand new skirt!

Many of us have old pairs of trousers that we do not wear, but are still hanging on to, we don’t want to throw out a perfectly good pair of trousers, but they are either too big, too small or we just never wear them.

Don’t throw them out just yet, as long as they fit you round the waist, you can turn them from a useless pair of trousers into a sexy, stylish new skirt, it’s really simple to do and it doesn’t take very long at all, and when you’re done, you have a brand new skirt!

You can do it by hand or on the machine (either works fine, but it’s much quicker on the machine)

Step 1.

Lay the trousers on a flat surface and mark where you are going to cut them, this will depend on how long you want your skirt to be, to ensure that you mark both legs in the same place, fold the trousers so that the legs are on top of each other and then mark.

Step 2.

Cut the trouser legs using long scissor movements, now make a small cut in the seam and pull or cut the seams apart from top to bottom and across the crotch.

Lay the item out flat and check that the ends of the fabric (where the hems will be) are level, cut until they are.

Step 3.

Turn the garment inside out and put the right sides together. Stitch the two sides of the seam you ripped together. You will need to take them in slightly and this will mean that you will have some excess fabric on the inside that you will need to trim.

Repeat this with the other seam.

Step 4. Sew a hem at the bottom of the fabric all the way round. You may need to take the skirt in a bit and then clip the bulk of fabric from the seams; this will ensure a snug fit.

Voila! A brand new pencil skirt.
