These are top 10 smartest dogs, made by Kennel Clubs, many dog trainers and dog masters, based on how many repetitions it took for a certain breed to master a new command. The breeds on this list took at least 5 repetitions or less to learn a new command, and tended to obey first commands more than 95 per cent of the time.

10. Australian Cattle Dog


Originally bred to herd in cattle in Australia, very active dogs and trained to be "biting dogs". They are freehinking, workaholic and very protective to their property, including humans.

9. Rottweiler


They are intelligent dog, can be very vicious but very protective as well. They are extremely courageous and very reliable, and one of the best guard dogs.

8. Papillon


Papillon is a lot tougher than their look, very possessive of their masters and "home turf". They're not only intelligent and easy to train, they are also one of the most affectionate dogs.

7. Labrador Retriever


They are obedient, extremely loving, patient and affectionate dogs, love children and other dogs. They love to exercise, very workaholic with great sniffing ability and a good rescuer dogs and hunter dogs.

6. Shetland Sheepdog


Originally bred to herd sheeps and cattles, very intelligent dogs with great sense of hearing. They are very hyper but loyal, affectionate and always seeking for human companionship.

5. Doberman Pinscher


Extremely loyal, assertive, fearless, tough, workaholic and have incredible stamina. Can be docile and gentle or vicious and protective. They are great for guard dogs, watch dogs and police dogs.

4. Golden Retriever


Vey affectionate dogs, loyal, loving, patient, great with children, eager to please and intelligent. Excel in obedience, sporty dogs, sniffing, a good rescuer dogs, hunting dogs and guide dogs.

3. German Shepherd


Extremely intelligent, courageous, great with children, excel in obedience and very tough. They are very protective, workaholic, good for guard dogs, rescuer dogs, police dogs and military dogs.

2. Standard Poodle


Highly intelligent dogs and easy to train. Good for guard dogs, hunter dog and rescuer dogs. They are sensitive, pleasant, joyful, protective, love to be sorrounded by people and hate to be left alone.

1. Border Collie


Most intelligent and workaholic dogs, they need job to be happy. This bred is good for herding dogs and they are very sporty. They set the standard in dog cometitions for such skills as agility, obedience, speed and tricks.
