I fell in love immediately with Microsoft word 2007 when it was launched and I did not wait longer to purchase it. It has loads and loads of features that are lacking in the previous MS word.

Despite, it is known that no matter how good is a product, it always has it disadvantage if not many. With Microsoft word 2007, your work will look perfect BUT what happened when you have to save it?

The moment you click CTRL-S (Save as), a pop-up window will open so that you can save your work but if you look clearly, you will notice that something is not right.

Under the FILE type, you will notice it indicates WORD DOCUMENT and I do not want you to confuse it with WORD DOCUMENT 97-2003. They are not the same.

WORD DOCUMENT (also known as MS Word) has the file type as (.docx), while WORD DOCUMENT 97-2003 (MS Word 97-2003) file type is (.doc).

So what are the steps require setting this permanently without having to change it each time you need to save your work?

1)      Open MS Word 2007 page. On the top left corner in the window, press the Office button to open the display Office menu.

2)     In the menu, look below toward the edge of the office menu for the button tagged ‘WORD OPTION’ Go ahead and click it. A new window will open.

3)     On the left side bar, you will see the word ‘SAVE’. Click on it. The first option above is SAVE DOCUMENT. In it is written ‘SAVE FILES IN THE FOLLOWING FORMAT’ with a scroll down button beside it. You notice in the scroll down is WORD DOCUMENT (*.docx), which is normally the third on the list.

4)     You have to click the scroll down button to give you several options. All you need to do is select ‘WORD DOCUMENT (*.doc)’ from among the list. Then go beneath and click ‘OK’.  That is it! You have successfully reset your ‘save as’ in Ms Word 2007 to Ms word 97-2003 file type.

Be careful not to mess up with the options in the Office menu. If you are a bit confuse, come back to the article and restart again. Also feel free to mail me if you have further questions regarding this.
