How, Where to Hide Money and Valuables Around the House
It's fun to thwart thieves and keep your stuff safe.
I like to keep a little cash on hand in case of "emergencies" as part of my commitment to preparedness. Here's a list of places that are likely to be left unturned and are therefore good places to hide cash and valuables. Unless otherwise stated, all items should be put into plastic zip top bags and then stored in an envelope.
Ceiling tiles: If you have a drop ceiling anywhere in your home just lift out a panel and tape an envelope to the back.
Coffee Maker: Place a small zip top bag in the section that holds the water. This is a good area for storing small items, too. No envelope, here, of course, unless you never use the coffee maker.
Refrigerator: For large sums of money you can pull the fridge out from the wall and tape an envelope to the back. Push it back and viola! This can also act as sort or a "savings account" for you, too...it's a lot of trouble to get to that cash back there so you're less likely to spend it if you don't have to.
That box of baking soda in your fridge is also a place to consider as a good hiding place.
Freezer: Empty ice cream containers are good hiding spots.
Kitchen Table: A heavy kitchen table isn't likely to get turned over during a burglary so taping an envelope under the table top is probably a safe bet.
Sinks: No one ever looks under a sink. I'm not talking about the door under the sink but about the bottom of the sink, underneath. When's the last time you looked at the underside of a sink? So that's a good hiding place. No envelope, just the plastic bag.
In short, don't hide things in places that can be easily turned over or or are a target to be rummaged.
