Tips on how to create Four simple up do hairstyles.

You can save yourself money and a trip to the salon if you master a few simple up do’s. Whether you are after a style for a special occasion or one to use day to day, there are numerous styles which are easily achievable at home.

If you plan on styling your hair into an up do then you should be aware that it is much easier to achieve on unwashed hair. Hair that hasn’t been freshly washed contains natural oils which help hold a style in place. Also remember to try to pick styles that suit your hair’s texture, very sleek styles are better for straight hair and texture styles suit wavy or curly hair.

The following are instructions for four simple up do’s:

1. Twists

Gather your hair into a ponytail around eye height. Then take a section of hair approx 1 inch wide and twist this hair until it curls inwards to form a twisted coil. Pin against the head and repeat until you have covered the hair tie with bun of twisted coils. You can intertwine ribbon, a string of tiny pearls or other decoration into this look to achieve a greater level of elegance. Alternatively, you could leave the ends of your twist free to create small spikes.

2. Braided Bun

This style is particularly suited to long, thick hair. Put hair in a ponytail leaving one section which is approximately a third of the hairs quantity out of the ponytail. Create a bun with the ponytail section. Then plait the section of hair left out at the bottom. Wrap this around the bun and secure with pins.

3. The messy bun

Secure the hair in a ponytail at the height you desire you bun to sit. Twist the end of the ponytail until it coils inwards wrapping the hair around the pony tail holder to form a bun. Instead of neatly pinning down all the hair leave 2-3 inches of ends free. Tease these out with a teasing brush to form spikes at the top of your bun. This style looks good worn with a head band or slim double head bands as seen recently on both the red carpet and runway. Alternatively combine with a deep side part and a flower.
