Did you know that rats are the most successful mammal on earth?

We like to think that humans are the most successful animals. But there is no doubt that if we have to consider everything, the most successful mammal on earth are the rats. This could not be argued.

Rats are found everywhere and they can adapt to live in most environments. The two common types are the brown rat and the black rat. Rats produce up to seven litters per year, each one containing between 6 and 22 young.

Rats are a source of disease, and their droppings frequently contaminate stored food. Black rats were responsible for the spread of the Black Death in the Middle Ages, which killed millions of people in Europe. Rats are very difficult to control because they quickly adapt to the effect of poison and learn to avoid traps.

Rats are also highly intelligent ad are able to exploit new food sources. They climb walls to enter food stores or tunnel beneath walls and can even bite through plastic or water pipes in order to drink. The are omnivorous, which means that they can live on almost any edible substance.

Sad to note that because of these characteristics found on rats, they are considered as pests. Most of us do not want rats at our home considering that they destroy things and worst than that, some of them are carriers of disease that would often lead to a deadly end. But obviously it would be difficult to terminate them considering there adaptibility and survival nature. We will just have to control them and bear with what they can do.
