No More Fleas!

It's that time of year again, when the weather is hot, and the fleas are multiplying on your pet as we speak. Most treatments are expensive, and full of hazardous chemicals that can even cause reactions in some dogs. I myself have recently experienced this after putting a flea collar on my Dachsund, 30 minutes later, she had hives, and was experiencing vomiting. After removing the collar, she improved drastically, as if nothing had ever happened. That's when I knew I had to find an alternative for my little friend. One treatment I learned about is the use of Tea Tree Oil, which you can find in shampoos, or you can add a drop to the shampoo you already use. I've also found it usefull dabbed onto the nape of her neck, where the animal can't ingest it, it helps repel fleas, and other pesky insects. Next is adding a small amount of cooked garlic into their food, but be careful, not to add to much as it can make your dog sick, as it may upset their stomachs. Another additive you can put into their food/ water, is Apple Cider Vinegar, I added 1/4 cup to a gallon of water, and noticed some hot spots she had, had also diminished. Apple Cider Vinegar is effective in keeping flies, fleas, and other insects away from your pet, it can also be used with horses, to keep away horseflies. Aromatherapy treatments include lemon, or rosemary oil, which can be dabbed onto their fur at the nape of the neck, or even on your pets collar. If you have fleas in your home I've heard you can sprinkly salt or even Borax onto your carpets let it sit for 15-20 min. and vacuum. These are just a few natural ways to get rid of the pesky critters. Hope you, and your pet have a happy flea free summer!!!
