True Ways to Speed up your Internet!

Most internet users are unsatisfied with the speed of internet that they have. Learn how to get the most out of your broadband internet by speeding it up!

It does not involve rocket science to speed up your internet. It all depends on the type of internet connection you have and the speed your Internet Service Provider (ISP) offers. The Windows System Registry contains certain parameters that you can tweak to maximize the speed of transfers across the Internet and your local area network.

One of the main reasons you might encounter slow speeds when browsing other computers on your local network is a feature of Windows Explorer which seeks scheduled tasks on other computers in your Local Area Netowork (LAN). The process is time consuming and might slow down on many computer systems. I recommend disabling this feature. To do this, you will have to configure the System Registry so that it disables the above-mentioned feature. This can be done in a few simple steps:

Improving LAN Speed:

1. Open Windows Registry Editor by clicking on your Start menu and clicking "Run..." (if you do not see "Run...", press on your keyboard Win+R). In the textbox, write "regedit.exe" and click OK.

2. Browse the registry and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / CurrentVersion / Explorer / RemoteComputer / NameSpace

3. You will see two keys under the NameSpace registry key. Delete the one labeled "{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}"

After you have deleted this key, all you need to do is restart your computer and the new settings will take effect.

Now for the part about the internet connection, which is probably why you are reading this article in the first place. In order to improve the speed of your internet, you need to tell it how much information to send per packet. Lots of bandwidth is lost to unnecessarily low packet sizes and each packet comes at a little bit of expense, since it has to send a header for each packet. This size is called MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit). Editing this is simple, if you know which is the adapter you use for internet.

To edit MTU and increase Internet speed:

1. Open Windows Registry Editor like in the above explanation.

2. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / System / CurrentControlSet / Services / Tcpip / Parameters / Interfaces

3. Under "Interfaces", select which network interface you use for your internet connection.

4. Under that, on the opposite side of the browsing list, you will see some keys and values. One of them is labeled "MTU". Right-click this value and click "Edit". On the Edit window, click the Decimal radio button and write the value corresponding to your internet connection:

For 56K Dialup: 576

For PPPoE connections (ADSL, for example): 1492

For Cable / Broadband connections: 1500

That is it! This should help you have a faster and more efficient internet connection. I hope this article has been helpful to you!

NOTE: I do not hold any liability for any problems caused by the advice given in these articles. If you are not sure of what you are doing. Do not do it.

There are, of course, other factors affecting internet speed. However, the most common factor is an improperly set Maximum Transfer Unit. With local area network, almost always the problem can be resolved using the mentioned configurations.
