This article covers the instructions and design required for building a wind generator of your very own that you can use to save both money and energy.

In this day an age energy is very much a talking point due to its effect on the environment and also the increasing costs hurting families in these hard financial times. One way to help lower the burden is to create your own power by building a wind generator.  This article is an introduction to what you require and places to find your own wind generator kits for very little cost and great reward. It is also an ideal project to complete with your children to teach them the science behind wind power as well as keep their mind active with hands on construction.

Let's start at the beginning, a wind generator is quite simply a device, usually some sort of turbine, that converts the Earth's natural winds into kinetic energy by using propellers to turn a shaft. This shaft which is connected to a generator. The generator uses electromagnetic induction (magnets spun around a conductor) to convert the kinetic energy into electricity. This electricity is used to charge up a group of batteries or return the power back to the electricity grid it is connected to.

As you might be thinking as you imagine your own cost saving home built wind generator, this doesn't sound like it will be too hard to build. Well, it isn't. All you need is the right motor for the generator (and the knowledge of how to make it produce energy); the correct measurements for the maximum efficiency of the propeller blades; the best size and material to have a shaft that will be able to be driven by the wind; and the circuitry required to charge the batteries you will be using for power storage.

The tower that is used to hold the wind generator up is also crucial if you want to make the most of the wind available in your area.

For everyone who is now excited and motivated to have their own wind generator kit I hope you follow it through with purchase and construction. They do not cost much to build and once made it will have paid for itself in no time.
