When speaking about weight loss and diets, we are tempted to believe that thin people stay thin by starving themselves. But the truth is that we have a wrong mentality about our lifestyles and the way we should treat food. We often forget what, when and how we should eat to be healthy and slim.

This article will help you shed the unwanted pounds, but only if you follow the advice given below. Even if at first this might seem too good to be true, remember that in order to lose weight all we need to do is to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Here are 14 tips that will help you change your eating habits and lose weight without depriving yourself.

1. Eat meals at regular times!
It is best to have three meals (up to five small meals) a day, just remember to have at least two hours between meals.

2. Eat soup!
Soups are filling, nutritious and low calorie.

3. Don't give up sweets completely!
If you give up all your favorite sweets and desserts, you will feel so deprived that you will binge on them at some point, which will ruin all your efforts. Try to eat your favorite dessert, in moderation, once or twice a week.

4. Walk!
You should walk every day for at least thirty minutes. If you're too busy and can't find the time to walk during the day, reserve some time during the evening for a nice stroll in the park (or walk your dog if you have one).

5. Eat lots of fruit!
Fruits are delicious, so you should eat them whenever you crave something sweet or as a snack between meals. If you like bananas and grapes, it is recommended to eat them in the morning.

6. Don't eat when you're stressed out or upset!
Negative emotions will make you eat more, as your goal will be to calm down and not to nourish your body.

7. Don't eat too spicy!
Spicy food will "burn" your stomach and you will feel the need to eat more just to soothe the burn.

8. Don't eat too salty!
Salty food causes fluid retention and will make you bloated. Of course, salt is important to the body, so don't eliminate it completely from your diet.

9. Eat cereal and yogurt!
They stimulate digestion, are low in calories and delicious.

10. Eat your last meal four hours before going to sleep!
There was a time when various experts advised against eating after 6 PM, but nobody goes to sleep at 10 PM anymore! If more than four or five hours pass after your last meal, you will start to get hungry again, so we should find a balance.

11. Only eat when you are hungry!
This one seems obvious, but most of us eat even when we're not actually hungry.

12. Get a hobby!
If you find yourself eating because you're bored, this is the most important advice: find something interesting to do that will keep you busy and make you forget about snacking.

13. Talk to someone about your problems!
Emotional eaters eat because they don't have any other way to express their frustrations. The emotional void is felt in the stomach. Try to talk about your problems with a friend or relative, and you will find yourself freed from the compulsion to eat.

14. Reward yourself!
Have you noticed that you tend to lose weight effortlessly when you're in love? This happens because you're happy and only eat when you're hungry. Try to feel happiness every day by pampering yourself (it doesn't have to be something expensive, just something that makes you feel good).
