Few fruits can compare to the uniquely flavored, and honey-sweet pear. With an abundance of juice, and a light, aromatic taste, pears can be easily incorporated into a delicious green smoothie that is subtle, elegant and bound to please even the most finicky customer. This recipe is easy, simple, and most importantly, positively pear-a-licious!
This recipe will make enough smoothie to fill your blender cannister, and is best consumed within 24 hours.
Tools and Ingredients:
- 1 small, ripe Anjou pear (cored, peel on)
- 1 small, ripe Bartlett pear (cored, peel on)
- 1 small, ripe Bosc pear (cored, peel on)
- ½-full peeled banana as per your preference
- ¼ teaspoon of minced or grated ginger
- 2 ½ - 3 cups of purified, cold water
- 2 large handfuls of clean, mature, green spinach
- Small squeeze or lemon or lime juice (optional)
Pour the water into the blender canister and add all of the spinach. Do your best to use mature green spinach, and not the more tender, sweeter baby spinach. The sweetness of the overall smoothie is rich enough to absorb the earthier flavor, and generally, the greener and more mature your spinach is, the bigger the nutritional punch it will pack.
Use the pulse setting on your blender until the majority of the spinach has been pulled down into the liquid. Set your blender to the highest speed and begin to liquidate the spinach and water.
Cut up all three the pears into large chunks and put them into the blender as well, continuing to blend the mixture until it begins to become uniform.
When the pears are almost completely smoothed, add the ginger, banana (broken into pieces) and (if desired) the lemon or lime.
Continue to blend the ingredients together until they are of a uniform consistency.
Pour into glasses and serve immediately.
Variations:
*Adding ice to your smoothie while it’s mixing is a terrific way to add texture as well as a nice chill.
*Freezing the banana prior to using in the smoothie is a great way to make the smoothie (initially) thicker, and also get it really cold without diluting it with ice.
