Since the summer is here many of you are going to want to wire your cars to pull a trailer. Whether it be to pull a boat or anything else here is how you would be able to do this.

Things You'll Need:
  • Car
  • Trailer
  • Trailer brake box
  1. First make sure your car has a tow package installed on it. Check the cars manual to see exactly where the wiring is as most are already able to handle trailer brakes.

  2. You will then need your trailer brake box. Connect the wires according to the cars manual to the brake box and then mount the box where you want it.

  3. Attach the wires according to the directions on the box connecting the right colored wires. After each one is connected put electrical tape over it to ensure it is connected properly.

  4. Once all this is done check all the wiring over to make sure that it is connected properly. Have someone help you by using the brakes as you are testing the wires.

  • Have someone help you with this
  • If you do not feel comfortable doing this have someone familiar with it show you how to do it the first time or two
As the summer comes and with the economy the way it is more and more people are going to be trying do it yourself techniques as opposed to paying a professional. If you have never attempted anything like this before take your time and make sure you have help doing it from someone who has done it before. Doing this improperly can cause serious harm to yourself, others, and to your car. If you have never driven with a trailer before practice in an empty parking lot before taking it on the road.
