A good exercise routine that you would want, is one that not only improves your fitness, but one that you enjoy. Because no matter how well it works, it isn't working if you're not enjoying it. Therefore it is important during planning, to think of activities and workouts that you enjoy.
There are basically three areas of exercise that you need to focus on. Flexibility, Aerobic, and Resistance.
Flexibility is a very important part of your exercise routine and should not be left out. Having regular flexibility exercises will help reduce risks of injuries and improve your efficiency. It should be regularly carried out about once a day. Start off doing something light such has walking for a warm up. Following that, stretch every major muscle group and repeat each stretch 2-4 times.
Aerobic exercises should be done 3-5 times a week and up to 60 minutes. Regulate your exercises with regards to the intensity of the activity. For example, you could do 60 minutes of walking or 20 minutes of running. You could also split up the exercise and take timed intervals. Doing this will not lower the efficiency of your workout.
Finally, resistance exercise. It should be done rougly twice a week and up to 60 minutes per session. You can do an entire body workout or if you prefer, you could do upper body one day and lower another. If you decide to split the exercises, you can do more sessions per week. Do 2 sets of exercise for each muscle group. Each set should consist of about 10 reps.
This routine is just a rough guideline. Feel free to adjust and tweak it to your needs. Most importantly, make sure that you enjoy what you're doing.
