MORAL STORY BOOKS AND OUR PRACTICAL LIFE

                                Moral and ethical values are part and parcel of human life. These morals and ethics set him apart from savages and animals. Hundreds of moral story books have been written to inculcate moral values in the minds of people to help them lead a pious and virtuous life to enable them to be successful Herein and the Hereafter.

                                 Moral story books play a very pivotal part in helping people, especially children to acquire good habits, manners and morals to be useful members of society. Their proper education, training, and religious teachings go a long way to mould their personalities and make them good and worthy to live in an egalitarian society. However, regrettably and ironically, we find unethical and immoral activities being prevalent and rampant in our society with impunity and with utter disregard of moral standards and religious teachings. There is a wild rat race among people to surpass and outdo others in their attempts to mint money and reap other worldly benefits and personal gains, sidelining and overlooking principles, ethics, mores, values and religious teachings. Materialism and inordinate greed has clouded and eclipsed our good sense, leaving us incapable of distinguishing between right and wrong or good and bad. Our prime concern seems to be earning or minting money by hook or crook.

                                  The moral values such as honesty, truth, integrity, trustworthiness, piety, brotherhood and equality have lost its meaning and significance in this age of ours where corruption reigns supreme, and undeserving and corrupt people are seen holding key posts, depriving deserving and meritorious people of their due and just rights. Sixty or seventy years ago, people hardly believe someone to be dishonest and corrupt. They used to express their astonishment if they found any dishonest people. Sadly, inverse is the case now. Now people express their surprise and astonishment if they rarely find an honest person. They treat honesty as something quite unusual in this materialistic age where personal gains and vested interest dominate over moral values.

                                   Now, people no longer get inspiration or motivation from moral story books, rather they avoid them or sometimes shamelessly discard them, for these books prick their conscience. They jolt them and rebuke them, though in a feeble and weak voice. People find sharp contrast between these books and bitter truth of practical life. They consider morals and ethics as something bookish, insignificant and even impediments or barricades in their ways to get worldly success, which is indeed temporary and short-lived.

                                    Indeed, it is very sad to believe all this happening in our society, but we cannot blink the fact. Despite this fact, we don’t want to appear to be pessimistic, for it would serve no purpose. Time and prudence demand to be wise and revive our moral values. Never was the greater need of moral story and religious books than now to make ourselves stronger to combat evil and satanic forces. These books are full of great lessons waiting to be imbibed and assimilated for the betterment and welfare of society in general and for the personal growth in particular.
