It't that time of year again, Time to unclutter the garage and get rid of a few things. Here are some helpful hints to make your next garage sale a success.

1. Determine if you have enough items to warrant a garage sale. Not having enough items will not attract people to stop and see what you have to offer. To prevent "Drive By's" team up with a neighbor and have a joint event. The more things you have to offer, the more people will stop.

2. Have items clearly marked. Use color coded dots to represent a price if you don't have time to price every item.

3. Be willing to negotiate! The reason you are selling items it because you no longer need it. If you have a sentimental attachment to a particular item, perhaps you should consider keeping it. You probably will not be willing to bend on price.

4. Save your plastic bags from the grocery store and use them to pack up your customers smaller items.

5. Advertise in the local newspaper. Most newspapers will let you post free ads on their website. Most die-hard value shoppers check the newspaper and actually map out thier stops for the day.

7. Make sure you have plenty of change. Take $50 - $70 to the bank and stock up on coins and dollar bills.

8. Use sun screen!! This is always an after thought. I find it amazing how many people complain of sunburns after hosting a garage sale.

9. Have a FREE bucket. For items that you just want to get rid of. You will find this will empty fast.

10. Take some of the items that don't sale to Goodwill. You may not get cash for the items but they will give you a voucher that you can use at tax time.

Good luck on your next Garage sale.
