My Heart Will Go On With You

Jun 4th, 2009 by chanleepeng

My heart will always go on with you. I may have loss my speech, my memory, my ability to walk, my hearing and etc, but my love to you will never have changed throughout the time. I love you so much and please listen to my heart.

To my dearest son, or/ and my dearest daughter,

If I lost memory and am unable to follow your conversation, please give me some time to correct myself. Don’t become nervous or ignorance in front of me. It’s my pleasure to be with you and to be able to speak to you.

If you see me getting dirty while eating or I’ve difficulty to put on clothes, please be patient and understanding! Remember the times I used to spend to teach you how to eat and how to wear clothes.

When you accidentally discover many wrinkles climbing all over my hands, legs and face, I’ve become very OLD. At this moment, please try to understand me and have much patience on me.

If I don’t want to eat, please don’t force me. I know my body better. When I’m hungry, I’ll eat, but when I’m not hungry, I won’t eat.

When I can’t walk as fast as I used to be in the past, please hold my hands gently and help me to walk. Please hold my hands in the same way when I first teach you how to take your first step.

If I don’t get myself wash-up under the shower, please don’t reprimand or shout at me. Don’t tell that it’s a shame thing to walk near me. Remember how many times I used to give you excuses to make you willing to take a bath when you were small.

When you see my ignorance to use a computer, don’t laugh at me, but try to understand me. Give me some time to learn from you. Remember that I’d taught you so many things…to dress properly…to eat healthily…to sleep well…to behave well…and how to confront your problems in your daily life.

If I keep on repeating things, or keep on saying the same words, please don’t interrupt me but listen to me. Remember that when you were small, you kept on asking me the same things, and you kept on asking me to tell you the same story until you fall asleep. I’d never ever grumbled at you, but I did it happily and willingly.

You don’t have to feel sorry and sad while confronting with the state of my old age. You should stay near me. Try to understand my needs and give me your love and patience before my breathing stops one day…

And one day, when I tell you that my life remains no longer, please don’t get angry. My dear child, you’ll come to understand me one day! Please try to understand that at certain days of my ages, I don’t prefer to live any more, but I simply survive to past the rest of my days.

One day, you’ll come to understand that how much I care for you and how deep I love you…

Please help me to walk. Please help me to eat. Please help me to end my life with much of your sincere love and patience.

Before my breathing stops, I’d like to see your sweet smiling. I’d like you to share your story with me happily. Please shower me with your endless love. Let me smell your “sunshine” during my remaining life…I’ll rest in peace…watching you from the above…

Excellent message Chan. Too often we see elderly parents abandoned in nursing homes while their grown children carry on their business, unconcerned about the parents needs. But here you have shown the reasons we should make a special effort to care for our elderly parents.
