Free Leading Site Scripts

Ever wanted to make a site like You Tube, EBay, My Space and other leading sites, but have little clue on how to script them. So you search the Internet for the scripts but to dismay they cost, this is why I have collected all the best free script alternatives most of which I have used often.  Enjoy.

Video/Music Sharing Site (e.g. You Tube)

PHP motion is a free video/music sharing site software which will allow you to create and run your very own Video/Music Sharing website. With little understanding of scripting required you can own a site just like you tube .com and to top it off it's free. It is a great script that continues to be adapted and improved, with many templates to suit your style. It has many similar features included on leading sites such as favourites, groups, member profiles, messaging, friends and comments. The admin panel also gives full control of your site, letting you easily changing it without editing a line of code.

Social Network (e.g. My Space, face book)

Dolphin provides a free script to build your own social network. You can make a website just like leading Social Networks; the only difference is that it is owned by you! Again likePhpmotion has many features included in leading social networks, so much so I cannot list here. The script can be adapted to be used as a dating site, chat site, video streaming just like leading social networks. It is a grand script, which I have used many times in the past.

WeBid is an open-source auction script written in PHP with many inbuilt features. The script is the prefect chose for setting up any auction site similar to that of EBay or Amazon. WeBid has an easy to use administration panel and a user friendly installation process, so you can have your own auction site set up in minutes.WeBid also lets you choose a number of settings without changing the code, and will let you choose a themes and MODs. I am currently using the script myself as is very useful.

NOTE: Make sure your host allows crons/cronjobs, or else the script may not work. If your host does not let you use crons go here http://www.onlinecronjobs.com/ to do it from a 3rd party.

Wiki (e.g. Wikipedia)

MediaWiki is a free software wiki package again written in PHP, originally for use on Wikipedia. It is now free source, for you to install. You could have a site as good as (or better) than Wikipedia, why? You are using the same script! I do not think I have to sell this one, it has sold itself.

The day I found this I jumped up and shouted “Hurrah!” after searching the internet for a free Freelance script I was wearing as they all cost hundreds of dollars. I am using the script now and love it. The software allows people looking for freelance work sellers’ signup, and buyers looking for professionals post their projects on your site. The freelancers then bid on the projects which the buyer then picks the bid he likes, where the chosen freelancer will complete and get paid by the buyer for it. You can take any commission you want based on the bid amount, so can earn a considerable amount doing nothing.  Similar to an auction, but the buyer has more control over it. A great script and free.

Ecommerce (e.g. shopping site)

Zen Cart truly is the fine art of e-commerce; free, user-friendly, it is open source shopping cart software. There is hundreds of shopping cart programs available, but none come close to offering the level ofoptions, features and support available with Zen Cart. You can now run your own shop on-line without paying hundreds on a script that may not as be half as good.

SMF, what can I say, is a brilliant script probably the best forum script, I have used it so much due to its high amount of customization from themes andMODs. It is a software package that allows you to set up your own on-line forum. SMF is written in the popular language PHP and uses a MySQL database. It is designed to provide you with all the features you need from a bulletin board while having an absolute minimal impact on the resources of the server.

Game Arcade (e.g. Mofunzone, Miniclip)

AV arcade is a free arcade script from AV Scripts. It has features which easily match those of paid scripts. There is no need for anyone to buy an arcade script!
Download AV Arcade now, you can, it's free. Again like SMF is a brilliant script that is constantly being improved modded and has a large amount of themes, it is also used by me often so is great, you may see me on the forums (KingKong) remember to say hello.

WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. Personally I dislike blogs but I believe WordPress is the best free one out there, I have only used it once and did not use it as a blog but thought well of it, (themes etc). A great thing though about WordPress is its free hosting / sub domain so you can have a blog instantly.

Real Estate

phpRealty is a real estate listings software program. It is easy to manage and easy to use. This software is for Realtors, Listing Agents or just anyone in the real estate business. Easily add houses for people to see across the globe, the script also allows you to feature houses, perfect if you are in the real estate business.

The TinyWebGallery is a free php photo gallery that is very easy to install, extremely user friendly, does not need a database (nifty) but still has all the features you should expect. Does not look entirely great but perfect for showing friends and family you pictures on holiday for example.

Calendar

WebCalendar is a PHP-based calendar application that can be configured as a single-user calendar, a multi-user calendar for groups of users, or as an event calendar viewable by visitors. I have not used the script first hand but my mate uses it so he can get updates on what he is doing in the day without being near his computer.
