This is how to maximize your wireless network distance and get faster speed by doing so.

1. Choose your router wisely. It is a common fact that many of us choose our routers by speed and forget about the maximum distance they can reach. What is the use of buying a 300Mbps router when you are only subscribed to a 1Mbps DSL plan

? Considering your DSL plan before buying your wireless router is wise and should be an obvious decision.

2. Existing wireless standards include 802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g and 802.11n.

* 802.11b was created back in 1999 and only supports a maximum of 2Mbps network bandwidth, and it has a 2.4GHz frequency.

* Next is 802.11a, which came out at the same time as 802.11b but is more expensive. It supports a maximum of 54Mbps network bandwidth, and has an approximately 5GHz frequency. But this higher frequency causes 802.11a to have a shorter range than 802.11b.

* 802.11g, was released in 2002. It supports a maximum of 54Mbps of network bandwidth and has a 2.4GHz frequency to support greater range.

* And lastly, 802.11n, the newest addition to the wireless standard, was designed to improve 802.11g in terms of network bandwidth size. It also has a better signal range, but is of course more expensive.

3. Put your wireless router in an area with no interference. Avoid putting it near things that cause electromagnetic interference. Examples of these things are your television and stereo equipment. The signal of a wireless router also travels upwards, so if your house is more than one level, it is suggested that you put your wireless router on the ground floor.

4. Customize the settings of your wireless router. Increasing the transmit power of your wireless router will certainly increase its signal strength.
