If you're looking for a way to jazz up your cup of joe, look no further! This recipe is quick, easy and packs a sweet, spicy punch! Dark coffee, cayenne pepper, chocolate and any number of creamy variations make it a real crowd pleaser...and one that will cost you far less than a Starbucks run.

Tools and Ingredients:

  • 1 heaping teaspoon of instant coffee
  • 1-2 teaspoons or hot chocolate mix OR 1 tablespoon of chocolate sundae syrup OR 2-3 squares of dark or milk chocolate.
  • 1 1/2 cups of boiling water
  • 1 dash/pinch of cayenne pepper
  • splash of milk (if desired)
  • scoop of vanilla ice cream (if desired)
  • coffee mug
  • teaspoon
  • whipped cream (if desired)

While you are boiling your water for the coffee, place a heaping teaspoon of your favorite instant coffee in the coffee mug. If you are using hot chocolate mix, put that into the mug with the instant coffee and mix.

Pour the boiling water into the mug and stir.

Add the cayenne pepper and stir again.

Put your chosen chocolate ingredient into the coffee, and stir until completely melted/incorporated into the liquid. (note: If you have used hot chocolate mix, skip this step)

If desired, add a splash of milk (cream can be substituted as well).

If desired, top with a scoop of ice cream and/or whipped cream

Add a tiny bit of instant coffee, hot chocolate mix, or a swirl of your chocolate flavoring of choice to the top of your ice cream and/or whipped cream.

Sit back and enjoy your spicy, hot, sweet drink!

(NOTE:The cayenne will NOT dissolve in the coffee, so it is best, every so often, to give the beverage a gentle stir to distribute it throughout while you're drinking.)

Variations:

*A dash of cinnamon (or cinnamon sugar) on top of the ice cream/whipped cream is delicious as well

*Add a splash of Bailey's Irish Cream or any of your favorite creamy liqueurs to add even more zip
