You can control exam anxiety and fare better by following the tips given below:

  • Prevent the pressure of learning a new topic the night before the examination. Review your lessons regularly to avoid this situation.
  • Organize your time for the final revision. This will allow you to concentrate on last minute clarification of certain lessons.
  • Go to bed, rise and eat at your normal time.
  • Last minute studying confuses established knowledge. Stop reviewing at least one hour prior to the exam and relax your mind and body.
  • Do not rush for the exams. Arrive on time with the necessary materials. Arriving too early or late raises anxiety.
  • Do not discuss with classmates the subject, just before the exam begins as they may be talking about the one area you forgot to study. This will cause anxiety and tension.
  • Go to the examination hall determined to do your best of what you know. Do not go with the idea of scoring extremely high marks. Do not panic when you find you do not know the answer to the first question. Read the question with the calm mind.
  • After reading the question paper, plan your approach and use the time rightly on each question
  • Clarify yourself by asking the supervisor if you are unsure about a question
  • Never be bothered as to what your classmates are doing in the examination hall. Be concerned of your pace and performance.
  • If you begin to get too tense or lose concentration, put down your pen and relax for a while. Take a slow deep breath, hold it for a moment and exhale slowly. Do this for 2 minutes and return to your question paper.
